Most of the students are gone because the festival is held during UT's spring break.

I've been considering skipping this year's event for a few reasons:

• I go to fewer and fewer panels each year because they just don't have anything I'm interested in and/or couldn't talk about myself if I were on the panel. I only went to business panels last year and they had little to do with the publishing industry and were all about the "selling web app access for $5/mo" industry which I'm not interested in. On the far end, they had panels on venture capital and turning revenue-less businesses into billion-dollar sellouts which is neither relevant to 9rules nor interesting either.
• It's expensive. Hotel, flight, conference pass, eating out, socializing, they all add up quickly: $200/night x 4 nights, $250-300 airfare, $300 pass, $20-30/day for food, etc., etc.
• Same people every year, same things to do, same restaurants, same bars, same lame SXSW-sponsored events/parties. I'd rather keep the money and head to Vegas with Paul and Tyme, spend half as much, and have twice as much fun.

Obviously it's cool to meet some new people each year and catch up with friends, but the conference's purpose seems to stray away from my normal work activities. As time gets closer I'll have a more definite answer to whether I'll be there or not.
