Should I buy the iPod Touch, if I already have a iPod nano 8gb 3rd generation?

Also it says in iTunes that how much "media" can I sync into it and it says 7,4gb but it should be 8,0gb.

That .6 GB is the amount of space that the operating system takes up. You're rarely going to get usage of the entirety of the storage space it says is available on the box. The freezing when you sync with your PC seems more likely an issue with your PC than with the iPod.

If you just got your Nano 6 months ago and are having problems I would suggest taking it in or sending it off for repair, because it's still under warranty. Whenever I've had issues with my iPods the Apple Store has just replaced them.

That said, I think buying an iPod touch would be frivolous, especially for someone who's 13, has no money and has a Nano that's under warranty.

I need help...

I don't know should I buy the iPod touch for this xmas. I have an iPod nano 8gb, that I got about six months ago.

Theres something wrong with the iPod i have because it allways "freezes" when I connect it to my PC. Also it says in iTunes that how much "media" can I sync into it and it says 7,4gb but it should be 8,0gb. Also the NEXT botton and PLAY/PAUSE botton on my ipod nano are not working. The place where i connect the USB cable on my iPod is VERY dirty.

So... should I buy the touch? I really want it and the wi-fi would be very usefull for me. I do not have much money (im 13) because i bought three months ago something big, but im sure i will have 250€ in a month time.

(one more question, is 8gb good for me because I have only 3,5gb of music I listen to?) (sry, bad english)

SimplePie is the RSS module of choice for us when we're doing such things on large client websites; I have nothing against Magpie and use it for a couple of smaller things, but I have it on good authority that SP is more sustainable for large operations.

Oli you're probably going to have to speak to smaller hosts on a one-to-one basis to see if they can cater to your fairly specific needs.

Large hosts don't lose much by turning your business away and as such thay can be quite rigid with their conditions. Smaller hosts may not have the massive infrastructure but they can be more negotiable with your requirements.

No examples I'm afraid >_<

Dear Lazyweb,

I'm looking for a new host to replace my two shared hosts. I'd love to be able to justify spending a ton on a dedicate box but that's not an option at the moment.

Ideally there would be a ultra-flexible VPS host that would allow me to set my RAM, HD and bandwidth separately and be great value.

I've already looked at Slicehost but their plans are currently too fixed and all at the wrong ratios.

Does anyone here happen to be an "A Small Orange" customer, and if so, are you on a relatively stable shared server?

It seems that one of the repercussions of ASO becoming popular was that "dumber" people came along and became their customers, and those people are running CPU intensive applications that are causing some shared-server customers to experience a lot of downtime.

I'm currently on the Nadia server, and with the exception of yesterday, it seems to be coming down daily. I've always been answered very quickly by tech support (usually withing 10/15 minutes) but the problem is always reoccurring, so they haven't managed to solve it yet.

I'm thinking about moving to another server, but I've heard from other customers on their forums that they also tried moving, and ended up on servers that were just as bad as their previous ones. So if anyone here happens to be with them, and happen to be on a good server, please let me know.

Uqibuity for Firefox - What's your take?

It's fantastic, full of potential, and I'm really excited about it. The problem is I don't use firefox. Maybe I'll give it a go when my new iMac gets here, but I am so spoiled by the speed/snappyness of Safari that I feel like I'm moving back a generation any time I fire up the fox.

Though there's no reason ubiquity needs to live inside of a browser. Quicksilver is similar in concept and implementation, and it's a desktop app. The concept of very simple user interaction between a multitude of disparate services... that's gold. I want more of that.

I've yet to tweak Ubiquity to its fullest, but I already use what it has now and it's become one of my favourite Firefox add-ons (next to another one of Mozilla Lab's plugins Weave).

The hardest thing about it is to break my old surfing habits of say, using the search bar to look for what you want. But after that, all I have to do is use Ctrl-Space and I can search on Google, Wiki and IMDB. I can do instant translations, define words, do quick calculations.

While there are other command line programs out there, the fact that Firefox is always the first thing open makes this easy for me.

I'm going to try and see if I can edit the command list to do other things as well. It's flexible enough, but I still don't have anything I can think of that I can use with this. It seems to do everything I need.

@Shadowsun: Command line interfaces have never really died out. It's just that the general public has been spoiled with icons and the excessive use of mouse clicking. I find it very easy to call on interface with hotkeys and just type out what you want. In fact, it's not just Firefox that I now run with CLI, but my Windows desktop as well, so no desktop icons whatsoever.

I've tried it out and I didn't really like the interface. Why can't they use contextual menus, instead of forcing people to type? I thought command line prompts were so 1997 (ehheh, and I wasn't even using computers then).

But ... nifty idea the way they integrate so many services onto one platform. Will be waiting to see what this morphs into.

I've been using Ubiquity since it launched the beta, and I'm finding it pretty handy. Apple's neat cmd+atl+d for instant dictionary lookups doesn't work in Firefox, so this replaces it with a simple select world then alt-spacebar. The translation part is neat, I'll probably use it a few times a month.

But I haven't read up on how Ubiquity can be extended. I could Google it ... but then we wouldn't have this discussion. Can you tell me about the extensions, and what's your take on the Ubiquity plugin?

One concept I've been wanting to implement for a while, but don't have the time to do for free, is location data.

You "leave" files, web pages, descriptions, etc at an actual location. A restaurant leaves a menu. You're walking by and browsing google maps or another app, and you've got a cue that there's info. Click, see the menu, when you're near the restaurant. This is a simple example, it can be a lot more robust and interesting. Just imagine some ARGs with that kind of feature.

Herberman is basing his alarm on early unpublished data. He says it takes too long to get answers from science and he believes people should take action now — especially when it comes to children.

So throw everyone into a panic but don't allow us to see what the data says. I understand the urgency with kids but perhaps the system needs an overhaul if it takes so long for findings to be published (legitimate ones) that millions of people would be effected.

I heard it on the local news a couple of times today and thought I would share. Not using a phone in public places sort of contradicts the "keep the phone aware from your head" advice. One sentence makes it seem as if keeping the phone away from the head lessens the exposure and the second sentence basically negates that by implying using it at all (or someone else using it) can harm you - like second hand smoke.

I wonder how much this would have impacted the iPhone's (or any other's) success it this was released a couple of weeks earlier.

How could you not want this as a superpower?

The years of endless rehab and medication I'd need for my neck and back as a result of those landings would pretty much wipe out any moments of super-hero glory from the leap.

I saw this video last night, right before catching the slam dunk contest on ESPN. Sadly, I was comparing those kids against the ants, and came out disappointed -- even when that one dude jumped over two buddies. My only thought was...yeh, that one ant jumped over like 5 other ants while flipping through the air.

Yeah I doubt D3 at decent lvl will run well on those things, probably have to tune it down. And SC2 with unlimited units? Game over.
