In the world of science fiction, every hero has their own little nifty gadget they can't dispense without. I mean, the Doctor has his sonic screwdriver. Teal'c has his staff weapon. Everyone on Star Trek has a tricorder. You get the point.

In real life however, while far and few of us are actually secret superheroes (probably because it's a secret), a lot of us have our favourite toys and gadgets we can't dispense without.

What happens to be your best little wired wizardry you carry with you all the time? Something you can't live without? Something you take for granted? Tell us. We like to know.

We should only let the women answer this one and be honest!

iPod Nano for me.

To be fair, I'll throw in my lot as well and mine would be my brand new EeePC.

A full fledged 7 inch ultraportable laptop for the price of an iPod Touch. Because it doesn't weigh a ton, I can carry this with me anywhere. Go online wherever I want and however I like it. It's the best investment I've ever made.

Wow, black looks hot on the Asus. Very nice.

iPhone is my best gadget, but that's the cliché answer. My old Nokia 770 was pretty high up as far as gadget status, but I sold it.

Cliche or not, iPhone is by far the best gadget I've seen yet and I use mine every day for more than just calls.

Not a gadget person, so the closest thing would be my vaio notebook. It's with me almost everywhere I go.

Minus the vanity plate

My iPod Touch hands down. I bought it thinking it would be a fun toy and now I have no idea what I would do without it. I can check the weather forecast in half a second, check my email anywhere and keep in touch with friends and family without having to haul out my laptop and park myself somewhere.

LOVE it!

My iPod. It's brilliant when I'm doing the laundry or on a long road trip - nothing like a dose of my favorite music to whittle away the hours.

My Cannon Powershot G9. I take it absolutely everywhere. Do not, under any circumstances, ask me how many pictures I take per day. It will scare you. It does my co-workers anyway.

My iPhone would be a very, very close second. My reasons are about the same as RightOn's, it's just a great tool that I find useful every single day.

Gadget number 1: my cell phone.

Tool number 2: my laptop.

Well, ever since I bought my Ricoh GX100 I've loved it. I've got a Digital SLR and to be honest, a lot of other cameras that I enjoy using for different reasons at different times, but this thing is just so much fun to use.

I can see why carmodyarc mentioned his G9 - it's probably around the same size and has a similar affect on him. I think cameras like this are hugely underrated - but it might be a camera geek thing really!

Regardless. Love it!

Mine, like others, would be my iPhone. There is no comparison in terms of things that I normally carry.

My best gadget is my Waterman fountain pen. Yes, I do mean this. It's a classic solid brass barrel with midnight blue enamel, 18ct gold nib and it writes like a dream. I write a hand-written letter whenever I can, at least once or twice a week and I just love the solid weight of the pen, it's fluidity on paper and it's tactile qualities.

I also love my Leica M6 classic manual camera and my 18th century violin. The Ipod is OK, but I prefer things that let me express myself and nothing better than a well made piece of equipment that's the best in the world at what it does, even if it is mechanical and old. I love it.

@publicenergy: do you have a review of the Ricoh? It looks very interesting, and if it's half as fun as you say it is I'm all up for it.

@NoelKingsley: You know, by far that has got to be the best answer I've heard. Forget all our tech stuff. When it boils down to it. What's a good old fashion pen worth but a thousand words? :)

@shadowsun7 - I wrote this in February not long after I got it:

I meant to follow it up but I haven't got around to it. But, if anything I like it more now that I've settled in and found my way around more.
