This may have been discussed already but I wanted to see if anyone else was, like me, waiting until WordPress 2.3.1 to upgrade? WordPress 2.3 is going to make my life a lot easier for many of the WordPress installations I have going right now (especially my blog since I use tags) - but I know I'm going to have a bit of work ahead of me to get 2.3 running.

Anyone else waiting? If so, why?

Well, so far no major bugs have been identified in Trac, so there is no push for a speedy 2.3.1 release. I would say if the plugins you use are 2.3 compatible, there is no reason to hold back. Just make a good backup of your files and database, disable all plugins (very important for this upgrade), and upgrade away.

I don't keep my nose in WordPress.org's Trac system - but since you do - maybe you could tell me if the WordPress upgrade routine will ever include those things you mentioned? It'd be nice if the upgrade routine automatically backed everything up, shut off the blog and disabled plugins, upgraded, and brought everything back online. - Wouldn't it?

Can't be bothered, eh? Want me to make a plugin for upgrading? ;)

I haven't upgraded... don't really need to and would probably break things if I did. I'll need to sit down and see how much I really want/need to.

Isn't there already an upgrade plugin?

There has been the occasional talk about it, but nothing too serious yet. I tend to think something like this, while nice, will probably never make it into core.

There is an upgrade plug-in which I've used twice. I don't know how it works with full upgrades I've only used it for the updates.

I haven't updated because it takes too much time for someone like me to do a full manual upgrade as I've only done one. I don't see the need to rush it. I have to update the sandbox I think and even though Adam assured me the theme itself should be fine I'm always afraid that my whole site will disappear or become slanted or something or that I would have backed up something incorrectly.

Thats what I like about Dreamhost, they'll do the backup and upgrade for you with their own super scripts.

I did it once, worked like a charm...

I had to properly sit down and work through all the breaks on my sandbox before upgrading to Wordpress 2.3. So far, it's fixed all the problems I've had with the previous versions and I've got no problems so far.

I've even gotten used to the native tagging in 2.3.

I've got plugins that automatically backs my db every week and emails it to me and I can easily do that manually with just a click. I just don't like automatic upgrades and worse...automatic instalations, too many things can go wrong and you can't really customise it to your benefit.

I'm not scared of it as I was before and I tell people the same thing. There is nothing to be afraid off when you understand what it is you're doing and it isn't that hard anyway.

I upgraded to 2.3 as soon as I could and haven't really had any issues with it. :) So I say go for it as long as your plugins are compatible (here's a list).

Like Kamigoroshi, I use a plugin called WP-DBManager that automatically backs up and emails me my database each week. It's very nice! As for auto upgrading plugins, I would be careful with them (primarily for security reasons).

I guess I'll be making my upgrades as soon as I can find some free time (read: when I'm not playing Halo 3).

There is an auto upgrade for wordpress versions.

Eh, I just upgraded. At least so far it seems to be working fine.
It was good it allowed me to unload all of the old plug-ins I no longer use.
