Looks like an interesting app if only I could find a use for it...

I've never even heard of this app. After reading about it now I have heard of it, but don't even understand its real purpose.

Yeah I am a little bewildered at what void it actually fits into in the current web climate and how I would use it.

I own it, maybe I will burn it at the stake for being pointless! I bought Adobe Web Premium Extended for the tools I know and love, did I pay and extra 400 bucks for this?

Interesting question if you ask me...

LIveCycle's just another remix of Adobe's Flash and Acrobat platforms. This one's tailored for organizations doing elaborate form-driven stuff, like banks or insurance companies.

The official buzzword/acronym, I believe, is Business Process Management, or BPM.

BPM is something else entirely.

BPM is more the orchestration of a number of services and actions an organization uses during a particular process.

For example, say you have a process (in a software company) where you recieve a sales order, then you update your CRM then update your license database to generate a license for the product for the new customer and you create a customized build of your product.

What BPM would do would be to ensure that all preconditions occur before you any particular action is performed (it's typically implemented as a state machine) and if everything is ok allows you to move on to other steps and in some case can be used to automate some steps.

So you could write a plugin for your CRM which when sale information is entered (and is valid and what have you, the BPM service could kick off the license database update waits for that to complete successfully and continues along) And if there were some steps that had to be done manually in between, it'd wait for those to occur first.

I'm not sure exactly how clear that explanation was as it was kind of stream of consciousness explanation.

LiveCycle looks more like a form designer, which I imagine is built into flash and can therefore incorporate business logic like: You can't enter a value in Field 12.b without having filled in 10.b and 10.c
