Mobile Experience + Youtube = A Perfect Storm of Co-Creation

An italian director just finished a full length documentary, filmed on a mobile phone (an N90 from Nokia). As it happens if you see this phone you might think it was a camcorder that had had sex with a transformer.

Now, the video resolution 352×288 pixels is not going to be great for TV but it’s a perfect size for viewing online. Although the newer model that my friend Paul likes to show off is called the N93 and that captures VGA which is 640×480 (pretty similar to a regular TV.

Now, combine that with the mobile upload feature on YouTube and you’ve got quite a nice relationship between creation and distribution. The mobile upload feature is rather similar to Flickr.com where you send the video as an attachment to a unique email address and the video is automatically added to your YouTube videos.

Mind you I am starting to discover that it may be “editing” that is the art, or the killer app here, and something i’m starting to understand more. Zefrank wouldn’t be where he is now if he wasn’t a master editor.

I’ve heard about this story. This is great buzz for Nokia and You Tube at the same time. And you’re right about editing—in the end, it’s still storytelling, You Tube or not.
