So, in case you haven't heard, you get a free Dr. Pepper thanks to Axl Rose.

Dr. Pepper  made the offer to give a free soda to everyone in America should Guns N Roses release Chinese Democracy this year. The often pushed back release date for Chinese Democracy, 14 years in the making, is set for 11/23/2008. And it looks for real this time as the first single, Chinese Democracy, was released several weeks ago to radio.

God bless this country - free soda for rock music.

To get your free Dr. Pepper, you must visit their website, http://www.drpepper.com, on the release date, 11/23/2008 to register. You will get a coupon in the mail in a few weeks and you can hop down to your local Circle K to get your soda thing on!

Here is the real meat of this post .... Do you care about the new album?

Think back to 1987 - 1992(ish). GnR were the biggest and baddest rock band around, hands down. But then they imploded. Axl, drugs, burnout - whatever you read - caused the band to split.

And since then, you always heard rumors about the new Guns record that's coming out "soon". Well that "soon" ended up being several years, several new band lineups and the exit of all original members save for Axl.

Fast forward to 2008. Have we been waiting on this record so long that our expectations are so high that we won't give it a fair listen? Will people flock to the album like people slow down for car wrecks out of morbid curiousity? Or, will people say "bleh" because GnR have been out of the spotlight for 14 years.

I've heard the first cut. Great rock tune. Sounds like Guns. But I have to admit, the first thing that popped into my mind was "We waited 14 years for this?".

What do you think? Heard the single yet? Let us know!

    Definitely Eh.

I hear the second single is better, though.

Yeah, but if it's as good as a Dr. Pepper they'll make a few bucks and sell out a few venues.

No album should take that long to cut.

@carol - someone (Rolling Stone, Vibe, etc) has to write a timeline tell all about what caused this album to take 14 years to release. I would like to read that!

I have definitely moved on since the late 80s early 90s. Heck, I was done with GNR as soon as I heard Jane's Addition's Nothing's Shocking (89?).

But, I would imagine there are more than a few mullets hanging around that will still like anything they put out...

I too have heard only the title track but it sounds pretty good. It'll be easy to fall back into love with them, but unless there have been some pretty extreme personality adjustments, they will self destuct just like before(hopefully leaving us with another great album).

I heard the song and kind of liked it. the guitar even sounds like Slash, but I'll have to hear more before I think about buying it.

I really really disliked it. I tried to forget about the time lapse, different band members etc. and just take it for what it is, a new rock album. I was really disappointed, too many bland generic songs and awful ballads for my liking. Axl's voice sounds different too, not as gruff as he used to be

I have said it and I will say it again whenever I am asked: that's not GNR. That's just Axl's solo album. Period. Sounds nice but that's not GNR and it will never be. It's not that I am a fan, I am not, really. I like GNR but I am not a fan with a dedicated mind, but I can make the difference between GNR and Axl. That's my opinion.
