5 Things About Me

22 December 2006 › 6 comments

There is yet another meme going around the Intarwebs again. If you are unfamiliar with the term meme, think of it like the game of telephone that you played as a kid, where one person whispers to another, and by the time the whole thing is done the message is obfuscated – nothing like the original.

The person who infected me with the current viral trend is none other than Newsvine antagonist and blogger extraordinaire Ben Gray of OpenSwitch.org. From his self-description, he is a road-kill stuffing fisherman who likes to keep to himself while using various technological devices to avoid fights.

Hopefully I will be able to shed some light on my shady past, and reveal five things about myself which are not common knowledge. I cannot promise anything quite as random as stuffing road-kill, but hopefully it will be interesting nonetheless. Without further ado, here are a few details…

1. I have lived chronologically in the following locations:

  1. Honolulu, Hawaii
  2. Houston, Texas
  3. Yuba City, California
  4. Atwater, California
  5. Omaha, Nebraska
  6. Wichita, Kansas
  7. Great Falls, Montana
  8. Spokane, Washington
  9. Montgomery, Alabama
  10. Springfield, Virginia
  11. Minot, North Dakota
  12. Pullman, Washington
  13. Lexington, Kentucky
  14. Boise, Idaho
  15. Dallas, Texas

2. I used to be a Red Cross certified lifeguard and swimming instructor.

3. I have made award-winning multiplayer video game maps – example.

4. I used to work as a system operator for Microsoft’s Gaming Zone.

Armadillidium 5. This little critter is an Armadillidium, commonly referred to as a pillbug. When I was a kid, I called them rollie-pollies, and I would put them in my mouth because I liked the texture. No paint chips for me! When finished, I would gently place them back on the ground, and they’d crawl away unharmed.

So there you have ‘em, some random and possibly disturbing facts about me. I suppose now I have to do the obligatory tagging of five more people, so that this nonsense can continue. Therefore, I will victimize these individuals:

  1. Alex Bischoff
  2. Andy Rutledge
  3. Cody Lindley
  4. Jared Christensen
  5. Jon Christopher

Discussion + Dissension

Great list, especially the mentioning of the pill bug (rollie-pollie). I can remember torchering many a rollie-pollie when I was younger, using them for my upside-down big wheel experimentations.

Incidentally, this is the first year I’ve been left off the meme list. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, really.

Erik: I wouldn’t sweat the meme trend. I just hopped on IM and sent it out to several people I saw online. I still got mad props for you, ‘tis all good.

The Internet is a fascinating place.

I have no idea how I got here, I have no idea who you are but I now know 5 interesting things about you.

I will probably dream tonight about putting rollie-pollies in my mouth – or not putting them in my mouth because I don’t think I could bring myself to do it.

Interesting place this Internet. Do you think this is what heaven is going to be like?

Peter: I agree. The Internet is a crazy and random place. I am glad you happened by my website, and took the time to leave a comment.

  6. #6 Micah Choquette

I can’t believe you’ve live all those places and never managed to swing by my place in Oklahoma. At least you live relatively close now. My sister and her husband just moved to Wichita Falls. If I’m ever in the area, we should get together.

Can’t wait for for your book! My next paycheck will be for pre-ordering it!
