Publishing 2.0: Tim Ferriss on Using a Viral Idea to Create a Best-seller

I’ve just published a fantastic interview with author Timothy Ferriss of the phenomenal best-seller, The 4-Hour Workweek, on my other blog, Write To Done:

Publishing 2.0: Tim Ferriss on Using a Viral Idea to Create a Best-seller

It’s a fascinating look at the author and the book that have changed the publishing world. Seriously, Tim has helped redefine book marketing to include the power of blogs and viral ideas (along with people like Seth Godin and others), and book publishers everywhere have taken notice.

I hope you enjoy the interview! If you do, I’d appreciate it if you share the post in delicious, Stumbleupon or Digg.

Thanks for this interview. Testing titles and subtitles on Google Adwords is really a unique idea; I guess that’s what it means to be an entrepreneur. I recently interviewed interviewed international best selling author Ernie Zelinski and he stated, “his book is written for ordinary people who want to accomplish extraordinary things with minimal time involved.” Full interview link is here - http://adawnjournal.com/2008/09/25/adj-interviews-international-best-selling-author-ernie-zelinski/

Really interesting stuff. At first, for some reason, I didn’t like Tim Ferris. His style gave off a bit of arrogance. But I like him now. He has some great ideas.

Nice one!

Tim is a wealth of knowledge on this subject. I especially liked the fact that he tried to give something before getting something. He does interesting things both offline and online. The temptation is to focus too much on online activities, forgetting the human component.

Two of my favorite writers together - what could be better? Tim’s book was the seed that inspired me to think beyond my present situation and begin to believe that I can design the life of my dreams. Then I found Leo’s zen habits. Leo’s writing and topics resonate with my soul. Today, I posted my first blog entry and left the world of analysis and study behind in favor of action. Put it out there and correct as you go. Thank you both for your inspiration and encouragement.

Thanks for the great link!

It is always nice to hear from others making a difference. I love how he mentioned it is so important to do it right.

I think that is where a lot of struggle. We spend so much time trying to figure out the easiest way of making money or being a huge success. We lose ourselves.

By taking the time to truly work on our work and make it great. It speaks from us, it is unique and it is who we are. This separates us from the rest and is the first step in standing out.

Great interview; thanks to both of you for doing. The Internet offers people the ability to share ideas that never would have found a voice in traditional means. More importantly, it gives the audience the ability to state what it wants, which, previously, has been mostly dictated to them.

I strive to do what you and Tim have done but in the dating arena, where many people are unnecessarily miserable, and while I’ve followed many of his tips to a much lesser degree, his book and tips in this interview should prove very helpful in reaching others so that I may, in turn, help them. (Nothing is more gratifying than the emails from people telling you how much you’ve changed their lives and helped them. It’s all about enteraining and helping, and reaching that level where you can focus on just doing those two things, in order to reach more and more people.)

Leo,

That is a rare opportunity you had there to interview Tim Ferriss.

Like it or not, Tim Ferriss’ book became a huge international phenomenon and I doubt many business people have not read it or heard about it.

He did create a lot of discomfort and a number of people didn’t agree with everything he said, but overall, he brought to light and important lesson for entrepreuneurs and it that learning how to manage your life and career is important. Basically, working 20 hours per day might get you money, but it won’t get you a life and learning how to deleguate in order to get a life is so incredibly crucial.

Leo - I like the way you ask the questions during your interview. You “own” the problem and ask the right questions to solve them. This really helps transfer knowledge in an engaging way.

Fantastic.
That idea with using Adwords to test the titles is genius.
But most authors don’t think about it probably because spending money for your book’s title is not a logical thing to do.
