The Curve Continues To Move
Staying ahead of the curve is an expression that I know many of us have used at one time or another in our lives to describe ourselves. I liked to do it often when talking about 9rules and many of my other ventures. However, lately I am seeing that the curve has simply moved so far ahead of me that I don’t think I am even on it anymore.
I am talking about regards to everything I do in life. I seem to be falling behind at an alarmingly fast rate and you only notice it when you take a look around at everyone else around you. Our egos like to tell us that we can just hope right back on, but the curve is always moving and if we aren’t moving faster than it, then it catches up and passes us.
This can apply to fashion. Dancing. Raising your kids. Your job. It can apply to almost everything in our lives. It is scary to think about because in life we so often get caught up in just doing enough or sticking to a routine that we have grown accustom to that by the time we realize our position it is too late to do anything about it.
It is easy to think that a drastic change needs to be done to set things right, but we know how hard it can be to make any sort of changes in our life. So then the next logical step is to take baby improvements, but these can be frustrating since you don’t feel like you are catching that curve that moves. What you have to realize though is that these small steps can add up and adding just one to your life can mean that you don’t fall further behind. You might not catch up based on that one step, but not falling behind any further is a win in itself.
With the lifestyle I lead it is easy to look back on the past couple months and years and recognize different paths I should have taken because I am looking at the big picture. However, when I look towards the future I see the end result I want to get to, but get so frustrated with the small picture because progress is hard to measure there. If you have ever been on a diet or workout plan you understand the frustration of busting your ass for a weak to not see any noticeable changes. Check back 3 months later though and if you stuck to your program you will have a much better picture of yourself.
When I can get back to doing that in life I will once again lead this curve. Till then, I need to make sure I don’t fall back any further.
