How much does the chicken cost?

Courtesy of Fundie Vegan. How to annoy people in a supermarket and continue the stereotype that vegans are judgemental extremists.
“A woman asked me what the chicken cost (didn’t have her glasses) and I said it cost a life. She said she’d never thought of it like that and that I was right!!!!!! She put it back. Then last week a woman asked me to move forward a bit so she could put her heavy basket on the shelf. She said her arm was dropping off. So I said that she needn’t worry as she could put it in with the other bits of dead animals she’d put on the conveyor belt. She said oooh, you’re putting me off it now. And I said, good cos that’s the idea. She moved to another checkout. Can’t win em all.”
Agree with the sentiment, but making crass remarks to strangers doesn’t seem like the way to warm people to our cause. Opinions?

LOL!
That made me laugh.
Anyhoo…it’s not in my nature to be so bold to strangers like that in a supermarket. I’m a smiler not a talker. But I don’t even say things like that to people I know, hang…yes I do….but they just put it down to me being a lentil eating hippy freak. Their words not mine.
But it isn’t the right way to go about making the world aware of the plight of animals. Let’s be honest - they all know where their meat comes from, some even know of the appalling conditions the animals are kept in..and some people just don’t care.
I think it’s good to plant the seeds in peoples minds that it is wrong and unacceptable but it’s up to them whether that grows to fruition.
Oh no! While I’d say some things to certain friends I wouldn’t have the guts to say anything to strangers. And if when I ate meat someone had said either of those to me, it’d soon be their dead arm lying on the conveyor belt
@Jeni Treehugger - lentil eating freak or not, not haranguing people in supermarkets seems like a wise choice
@HPP - Yes I have friends like that. They say things like “I didn’t get to the top of a food chain to be a vegetarian!” to which I sweetly respond, “Let’s put you in a cage with a hungry lion, then we’ll see who’s top of the food chain!”
I am not a vegetarian, but I respect others choices to or not to do something. I have to say if someone made a comment on something I was doing or my lifestyle, especially someone I don’t know, I would most likely tell them what I think. I would never give someone what was on my mind without being asked for it!
