Voteforchange.com “unfortunate” wording.

On a website owned by the Obama campaign aimed at getting people registered to vote (mind you that I can REGISTER for anything, actually voting is another thing entirely) a funny little bit of wording pops up about half way into the process that has me scratching my head.

Midway through the form filling you are asked if you are US Citizen. If you are not and click “NO” you are greeted with this:

unfortunately

Notice something ODD about that little blurb?

Apparently, to the folks in the Obama campaign it is unfortunate that non-US citizens cannot vote for the President. It’s the little things that add up to big things folks. We have political candidates making foreign political trips to speak to the people of Germany and France… speaking on behalf of the US foreign policy to Iraqi leaders (unsubstantiated quotes aside they STILL have not denied the claim) and polls being run in foreign countries about who they want running our country being aired on TV.

Putting aside the global ramifications of ANY election cycle in any country… this is one of those processes that is done by US Citizens and only US Citizens… I don’t think restricting voter access is unfortunate at all.

While I will give you that it is poor word choice, it is kinder than, “Who do you think you are?!” haha. Yes, they should have been more careful, but I do believe you’re reading too much into a word. The sentiment, it seems, was supposed to be “Sorry, only US citizens are eligible to register to vote.” Not, “we think you should be able to vote”.

In context with his history with agencies such as ACORN I don’t think it’s a stretch to read much into his words.
