Princeton's elite "humor" falls flat
The Princeton students claim a tradition of their own, to skewer sacred cows and engage in irreverent humor. Their antics might play well in their own backyard or in elite salons where The Newyorker is de rigeur. But in a genteel South Carolina institution, steeped in honor born from shared sacrifice and commitment to God and Country, their act went over like a lead balloon. Adorned in garish outfits meant to mock the neatly proper uniforms worn by the cadets the Princeton band marched down the "Avenue of Remembrance," a campus street that honors The Citadel's war dead. They issued mock salutes at the horrified cadets. Some cadets "roughed up" a few members of the band by pushing and shoving them away from a place they had no business intruding onto. The Citadel should have given the inconsiderate jerks the bums rush and sent them packing. Instead they were allowed to perform their halftime show, during which they again lampooned the military. Elite Liberals are always quick to tell us that we must respect other cultures' traditions and mores. They lecture us on the need for "tolerance" and "understanding" regarding the multicultural society in which we find ourselves. We are supposed to dress appropriately when visiting foreign countries and respect their language and religious sites. That notion of respect evidently doesn't extend to any institution which they deem anarchronistic and unworthy. Liberal disdain for military service is well known. They believe only suckers, losers, and oppressed minorities enlist in the armed forces. But, unlike most Ivy League schools Princeton does offer an ROTC program. Twenty seven cadets are currently enrolled in it. The members of Princeton's marching band would do well to seek them out, befriend them, and learn from them. They just might get a sense of what it means to revere duty, honor, and country. Instead the band had this to say during their halftime show:
Princeton and The Citadel are both in the United States -- but only one
of them by choice.
Wow. Just wow. Listen up you elite snobs. I'll help you pack.
