Playing politics with the Iran protest
Then it was reported that Senator Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate for vice president, was invited in Senator Clinton's stead. He also declined the invitation. Shortly thereafter Governor Palin's invitation was rescinded. I would have thought that we could unite in condemnation of Iran. They are overt sponsors of terrorism and the perpetrators of attacks upon American soldiers. The stated goal of the Iranian regime is the destruction of the State of Israel, presumably via the use of nuclear weapons. President Ahmadinejad's presence at the UN gives him an aura of legitimacy and a forum for the dissemination of his patented brand of smiling obfuscation. The United States, and all freedom-loving peoples of the world, should join together to denounce him and his Islamist troglodyte enablers. Instead, according to this report the organizers of the rally "encountered heavy pressure from Jewish Democrats, including members of the conference, members of Congress, and the liberal group J Street, not to give Palin a platform". Why? Has the political climate in this country become so blatantly polarized that Democrats cannot countenance joining with Republicans in support of a noble cause? The McCain campaign's reaction to the snub against Governor Palin calls out the Democrats on the political angle:
Governor Palin was pleased to accept an invitation to address this rally and
show her resolve on this grave national security issue, regrettably that
invitation has since been withdrawn under pressure from Democratic partisans.
We stand shoulder to shoulder with Republicans, Democrats and independents
alike to oppose Ahmadinejad's goal of a nuclear armed Iran. Senator Obama's
campaign had the opportunity to join us. Senator Obama chose politics rather
than the national interest.
Senator McCain and Governor Palin stand united with the civilized world in oppostion to the the Iranian regime and its meglomanical ambitions. Senator Obama and Senator Biden appear willing to equivocate when given the opportunity to confront evil head-on.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do
nothing." - Edmund Burke
