Obama on abortion

When it comes to our next President, there are a multitude of issues they have to specify their stance on in order to gain the support of the people. Some of these issues are fairly petty, some are extremely controversial. Abortion, is one of those hot button issues and on that issue, the Democrat nominee, Barrack Obama stands for it (at least as a lawmaker).

In a new ad from ‘Born Alive Truth’, abortion survivor Gianna Jessen is quoted;

Can you imagine not giving babies their basic human rights, no matter how they entered our world? My name is Gianna Jessen, born 31 years ago after a failed abortion. I’m a survivor, as are many others…but if Barack Obama had his way, I wouldn’t be here.

Unfortunately, Barack Obama voted four times against affording these babies their most basic human right. I have serious concerns about Senator Obama’s record and views on this issue, given he voted against these protections four times as a state Senator. Just as abuse victims share their stories to educate the public, fight for the common good and hope that as a result politicians do what’s right, I felt it was important to come forward and give these new born babies a voice.

I am living proof these babies have a right to live, and I invite you to learn more about Senator Obama’s record on this important issue.

During his run as Illinois State Senator, Barrack Obama not only voted down a bill (four times) that would protect children who survive failed abortions, he lead the opposition.

In 2001, Senate Bill 1095 (Born Alive Infant Protection Act) was first run through the Illinois Congress. Obama votes NO as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

How about a transcript of his opposition to the bill? Pages 84-90

Obama votes “present” on S.B. 1095

In 2002, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act is put up for a second attempt as Senate Bill 1662.

Again, Obama votes no on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Yet another verbal opposition to the bill on the Senate Floor. Pages 28-35.

This time he votes NO on the Senate floor.

In a third attempt to pass the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, Senate Bill 1082 is drafted.

Obama votes to amend S.B. 1082 to include an identical ‘neutrality clause’ to a similar federal level bill (that was signed into law in 2002). Then goes on to vote NO anyway.

Obama has constantly maintained that he would have voted FOR the bill had S.B. 1082 been identical to the one passed by the Federal Government in 2002. (nevermind that he voted YES to make that so on March 12, 2003) In August of this year, Obama’s campaign finally admits that Obama has misrepresented his votes on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

His campaign yesterday acknowledged that he had voted against an identical bill in the state Senate, and a spokesman, Hari Sevugan, said the senator and other lawmakers had concerns that even as worded, the legislation could have undermined existing Illinois abortion law.

Even though, as worded, the bill would NOT have interfered with any current state law on Abortion due to the fact that this bill applied to children who survived procedures and were born alive.

The Born Alive Protection Act passed once Obama had exited the State Senate. I’m not implying HE was the roadblock but he did quite a lot of legwork on stalling these bills.

How noble.

— Addition: For those of you who really want a good idea of the side of this practice Obama apparently protected by shooting down these bills… read the Congressional testimony of Jill Stanek HERE.

See, I don’t even know what to say about this, I just don’t know how you can vote no on protecting life… and there is NO question about the validity of life on this subject. I read the transcript and let me tel you, it was sick to here him say the things he did. So… with his logic… if a child is born prematurely, that “child” does not legally need medical attention because it was not carried the full nine months. That is what I am hearing.

James,
I understand you may feel slighted on situations such as these. However, you are taking what Obama said out of context. He is not against medical attention for children born of failed abortion. He is saying passing a bill shouldn’t be needed. If you read the transcripts without bias, you can clearly see what Obama is eluding too. The transcript reads…..Obama says “Because if these are children who are being born alive, I, at least, have confidence that a doctor who is in that room is going to make sure that they’re looked after.”

See, I could see that being a valid response except people like Jill Stanek testified in Congressional hearings to events contrary to Obama’s ‘confidence’ on the issue.

Rooms built in hospitals who’s sole role was to allow the living child to die outside the mothers womb… now, if the doctors were going to look after them, one would think things like handing a downs baby to a nurse and asking her to leave it to die in the Soiled Utility Room simply would not happen.

Obama knew full well WHY the bill was written… to protect through the rule of law, the lives of children who survive induced labor abortions.

If you exclude the fact that Obama and the rest of the people debating these bills in committee were fully aware of congressional testimonies of people who experienced these abortions and the aftermath then you are taking his comments out of proper context.

Excerpt from The Hippocratic Oath:

I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.

I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.

Proverbs 24:11-12

Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don’t stand back and let them die. Don’t try to disclaim responsibility by saying you didn’t know of it. For God, who knows all hearts, knows yours, and he knows you knew, and he will reward everyone according to his deeds.
