John McCain might consider a pro-choice running mate
The Republican National Convention is several weeks away and speculation is rampant about John McCain's choice for Vice President. Today he gave an interview in which he said he'd seriously consider selecting a pro-choice running mate like former PA Governor and Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge.

"I think that the pro-life position is one of the important aspects or fundamentals of the Republican Party," McCain said. "And I also feel that--and I'm not trying to equivocate here--that Americans want us to work together. You know, Tom Ridge is one of the great leaders and he happens to be pro-choice. And I don't think that that would necessarily rule Tom Ridge out."

That sound you hear is the collective gasp of conservatives nationwide. McCain has obviously floated this trial balloon in an effort to guage conservative and rank & file republican reaction to a pro-choice running mate. He knows we're between a rock and a hard place with regard to our vote come November. Jim Leach aside there isn't all that much enthusiasm for the Obamessiah in republican circles.

McCain is hoping that we'll tolerate yet another of his maverick stances. He'll pay lip service to the pro-life cause when it suits him, and he'll embrace a pro-choice partner if the need arises.

Unfortunately he's probably right. We don't really have another option (no, Bob Barr will never see even 1% of the vote). When we hold our collective noses and pull the lever for McCain it will be because we're really pulling the lever for "not Obama". No matter who McCain selects as his running mate, or what policies he embraces, we will still have to vote for him. Because no matter how bad we think a McCain presidency might turn out, an Obama administration can and will be far worse.

Just say NOBAMA on November 4th.
