Next Book for Discussion... Gorgeously Green

There was some interest in exploring another book together and there has also been some interest in discussing more green ideas on the site. I thought I would pair the two and we could work our way through the book, "Gorgeously Green," by Sophie Uliano.

I received this book from Harper Collins and I really liked the ideas and the message that you could begin starting your green journey with just one simple change. I think many people are scared of the total overhaul process, but we could all make a few simple changes to better our earth for ourselves and for our children.

We can start our discussion next week, but maybe you might like to put a hold on this book at your local library? In the meantime, the author has set up a website and a Gorgeously Green Girls Club that you can join to help teach you simple steps towards an earth-friendly life.

I want this to be a fun and friendly discussion. I know that not everyone is going to be on the same page with a lot of this stuff, but I want this to be a supportive place where you can share freely without judgment! Remember, many of us are still learning and exploring our green sides.

I am looking forward to a great discussion!

Sound Off: What earth-friendly ideas are you really interested in exploring? What changes have you already made in your own life?

"I'm still interested in learning more about organic etc. I like the idea, but the price tag worries me, and I'm not 100% sold on it's necessity. . .

As for implementation, I think that there are lots of frugal ideas that I use that are also green: buying used clothing and items, buying in bulk (less packaging), growing a garden, cutting down on consumerism, using the library (thereby purchasing less, composting, using both sides of paper. . .

Added on to that I recycle"

"I would like to learn more about being green. I even started selling organic pajamas on my website and I most say "I love them". Also, I finally went to a sporting goods store and bought a reusable plastic bottle for when I workout. I workout 5 days a week so I thought I was saving on not using all those plastic water bottles. Plus, we recycle at home."

"Sounds great, I look forward to it! My husband and I are the recycling fanatics in our neighborhood, we need really 3x the bins that we are provided. I just bought reusable grocery bags (to use instead of plastic, which I always reuse anyway), and we use energy efficient lightbulbs, and I've started washing all my clothes in cold. I figured I'd start easy."

"Thanks. I just put it on hold Unfortunately, there are FORTY FOUR people who have it on hold ahead of me! Don't think I'll get it in time for the book discussion."

"Holy Cow, CC! I can't believe that many people have it on hold.

I will try to highlight all of the good stuff on here, I promise!"

"I got this book from HC to review too! I'm still reading it and am interested to hear your thoughts.

Personally, I have done tons of things to be more "green" but my motivation is usually the health of my family rather than global warming.

Most of the time I have found that being eco-friendly and frugal go hand in hand. For food, it can get more tricky, but if you are creative and you know what is important to buy organic vs what doesn't matter as much you can make better choices. I've posted about that topic a few times."
