Download Turing 4.1.1

The Turing (winoot) programming language has gone freeware. Dr. Holt himself, of Holt Software, has let us know of that in an email:
We have just posted a free copy of PC Turing on the company website http://www.holtsoft.com/
We’ll investigate putting various books published by the company on the web for free as well.
Holt Software’s Turing 4.1.1 IDE and compiler are available for download, “free of charge for personal, commercial, and educational use”, from their website. It is also mirrored here.
There’s a mixed reaction in the community. While most welcome the free distribution of the latest version of Turing, the future of this programming language is now less certain. It is likely that the only future development will come through the OpenT initiative.
It would be interesting to see if Ontario school boards will start looking for another commercialized introductory programming language, to replace the now obvious lack of official “support” for the Turing programming language. Though until that happens, the free availability of the compiler and additional resources can only benefit the students. Standardization of the language’s version number will also make peer support more universal.
So get your free copy of Turing 4.1.1 and head over to the community forums.

why couldn’t they have done this acouple years ago when i was in grade 10 computers learning turing??? i had to find a outdated versioun on the internet, which was near impossible, and use that to work on my school projects at home.
Because a couple of years ago Holtsoft was securing a destribution deal for Turing, with the Ontario public schools. Your high school should have looked into getting you a working copy. Though I guess it doesn’t matter now — Turing is now available for download.
How cm when i click download turing nothing happens?
I’ve updated the link to HoltSoft’s website. If that changes again, you can always download from compsci.ca’s hosted mirror
Man thanks a lot. I need this for next semester cause I’m taking a computer grade 10 course in grade 9. Big help man
Is there any version available for linux, or does the windows version work on it anyways without wine?
I think you meant “with WINE”. There is no native Linux version of Turing. Some people have managed to get it working successfully with WINE. Others had problems.
Thanks for the quick reply, Tony, but I did mean “without wine”. I am a fairly new linux user and aren’t that comfortable with wine, so i don’t like to rely on it. Thanks anyways!
Oh. Well the “windows version” never runs natively on Linux. If you decide that you might want to give WINE another shot, you could then ask for help on the forums if you run into any problems with getting Turing to work.
i downloaded turing yesterday to do a school assignment and it worked fine, but today when i went on it it said that the program was experiencing a fatal error , and that it wasnt my fault. i unistalled and reinstalled it and the same message appeard shortly after, can anyone help me find some other way to get turing?
I love Turing, it’s so easy to use as opposed to C or Java. The interface is very intuitive. Thanks for the link!
i like the idea of free turing, i often make random pointless pointless programs in my spare time. can this version use fullscreen like turing 3.1.1 could? and howz about compiling to make programs the run nativly on linux or mac if the option was checked? as much as i like color-coded editing, i like those features that 3.1.1 had that later versions didnt…
