Holograms and user interfaces

Holograms and holographic displays have come a long way since Star Wars, yet outside of the movies, I’ve only ever seen them used as advertising gimmicks.
Vizoo, the Danish company that designed the holograms for the Windows Vista launch in Copenhagen recently applied their holographic magic to an interactive Lexus advertisement in Times Square, New York.
The interaction is in the form of a touch screen display (show below) on the display room window. It allows passers by to customise the hologram, for example change the colour of the car or move it around.

The technology behind the holograms is called Cheoptics360, here’s the marketing video from Vizoo. I wonder, apart from advertising, what else these interactive holograms could be used for…
