Yokosuka Sailor Busted for Multiple Traffic Violations
The USS Kitty Hawk is on a roll these days, this time with a sailor charged for DUI, among others. Yokosuka sailor Rickey Ray Williams has been charged by Kanagawa Police with multiple violations of Japan’s Road Traffic Law. According to the Yokohama District Public Prosecutor’s Office Williams was driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license and also failed to report an accident.
Williams, 20, was indicted Jan. 24, 10 days after police say he hit another car while driving intoxicated and without a license around Yokosuka city, a prosecutor’s office spokesman said.
The spokesman said Williams also did not report the incident to the police and fled the scene. He was arrested after midnight Jan. 14 and remains in police custody.
It appears that the recent trouble that other Yokosuka sailors have found themselves engaged in has proven to be little deterrent for others to remain out of trouble. Having served in Yokosuka for almost 10 years myself, I understand the difficulties that the young sailors face. However, there is no excuse for all of the egregious acts that have been committed against the local citizens lately.
Unfortunately, sailors in Yokosuka are going to have no choice but to endure increasing difficulty while enjoying themselves after work, all due to the careless actions of a few reckless individuals.

The element of responsibility has disapeared, and due to that, the actions of a few are affecting the majority.
this is typical navy stuff no big deal..right…no this is just crazy send a message give him 20 years to life to set the example to others who follow..that this is not the USA where you can do this stuff on regular basis and it no big deal. there was many weekends that i was stuck on the boat because someone else messed up…
I feel that this just another black eye for those sailors who are doing good things in Japan. There has to be a better way to deal with these matters. The leadership has failed in many ways to curtail these types of issues in Japan period. I think that if the senior leadership is replaced due to a loss of confidence there will be a changes in the amount of alcohol related incidents.
Oddly enough, I see a lot of negative about the Sailors in Yokosuka but no stories here about the group of Sailors (and a Marine) that spent a Saturday at an orphanage in Yokohama, playing with orphans.
