I wondered if I was too gullible today as I quickly tucked my fly fishing rod into my Liberty and went to get my spin casting rod from my dad’s boat. I had been fly fishing for a little over an hour when I came across an angler who said a ‘Big Laker’ followed his lure close to shore.
I put out a couple of flies in the area without any luck. So, I ran back to my car to make the short trip to get my ‘regular’ gear. I almost tripped over this duck (see photo). Within half an hour I was back on the river searching for this big lake trout. I kept fishing until dark without any success (it seems to be my story lately). While packing up my gear, I heard a shout close to the spot where the lake trout sighting occured. One angler caught and released a large pike.
Figures…
It also reminded me of another time when I heard someone tell me that there was a bass lake close to town that was swarming with bass. Apparently, it was Huntsville’s best kept secret. I must have been Huntsville’s best kept idiot because I convinced dad to come with me and try out this little lake. The lake was a weed ridden shallow pond that may have exceeded 6ft deep. The only fish in there were the 2 suckers paddling a canoe.
Am I the only one to have this issue? I would say no, at least not after I saw this lure that can be purchased by the ‘upper bracket’ of fisherman. It is worth 1,000,000 dollars and is only available for Saltwater species. I would think that if I could afford it, I would try it in my favorite trout lake anyway. Visit this site for more details.
Are we gullible? Comment below.

I need at least three of them, could easily loose a couple in the brush and wood in my favorite bass lake.

I guess if you can afford 3 of them - you could probably have a whole box of ‘em!

Yeah, we’re gullible. Unless we’re having the best fishing day of our lives, we’re convinced that the fishing must be better somewhere….that once we find the hotspot, we’ll slay ‘em…
The unfortunate truth (unfortunate at least for those like me want instant gratitification) is that most success at fishing comes from mastering skills and learning water over a period of time, rather than from stumbling “secret spots.”
