Despite a rainy start today, dad and I managed to get the Lowe prepared for it’s official 2007 launch. In our driveway (with special hose attachments) our e-tech Evinrude started on the first turn of the key. Unfortunately, as we checked-out the rest of the Lowe in the driveway, Dad started to not feel well and decided to stay home. I called another friend to take his place for a late evening fish. We hit Vernon around 6:3opm.
Our destination was the mouth of the Big East river. Lake Trout were our primary target. When we turned on the fish finder, and started our trolling pattern, we noticed that the fish were primarily between 20 and 40 feet. The water temperature was 44 degrees F at the surface. The water temperature should have been perfect. We tried silver spoons, and blue/silver diving rapalas.
Nothing worked.
By 8pm we had to head back to the landing to be able to glide the Lowe onto the trailer before dark. I will return this week and try some live bait and some white twister tail jigs. These have worked well in the past. Hope to see other anglers out there.
Before we left, the sun cracked through the dreary day and I was able to snap a couple photos. Anyone else have anything to report? Comment Below.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for letting me take your dad’s spot last night in the Lowe! It would have been great if I could have netted one for you…but I guess we need a hit before we can go for the net!! Looking forward to next time.

I will be coming up to lake vernon next weekend to try my luck with some pike fishing. This will be my first time on the lake, so I don’t really know any spots. If you could give me some advice on some hot spots on the lake please let me know. If you could, please e-mail the information.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate all the help I can get. I usually fish for bass at my cottage on my private stalked lake off fern glen road. My friend suggested we try pike once since bass season isn’t officially open. If you know of any other strictly pike lakes around elmsdale/hunstsville area let me know. We won’t fish it out! We catch and release (cautiausly). Thanks again

Guys,
I’m looking for Bait shop in Hunsville area,
cause it’s not possible to buy it in Toronto, travel to Arrowhead Park (3 nights camping) and keep it alive for two nights.
Thanks for any info.

Serg,
Depending on when you come up…Arrowhead is about 15 minutes from Huntsville. The only bait shop I know is Complete Bait and Tackle. It is by the beer store in town. You could get your bait there and put them in a bait bucket in the park and then keep that in the lake. The minnows should live in your bait pail for the time needed.
One thing…Check the regulations at Arrowhear because I am NOT SURE if you can use or have live bait anyway…
I will email you directions to the bait shop and check the regs for you.
