Title: Dokebi Bride #4
Author: Marley
Publisher: Netcomics
ISBN: 1600090788
May Contain Spoilers
Sunbi’s troubles continue, as she struggles with both the human world and the spirit world. Gwangsoo and his cronies are driving her nuts, with their frequent visits, though the gold nuggets they keep offering her sure come in handy. Her sudden windfall is hard to explain, and leads to additional misunderstanding with her new family. On top of everything else, she’s accidentally picked up a curse doll, and transferred the maker’s misfortunes to herself - in the form of an ever growing blob of ectoplasm that’s stuck to her like glue!
Sunbi’s awkwardness in the human world continues to make her miserable. Her only friend is Taehoon, but an afternoon at the movies with him makes Gwangsoo seethe with jealousy. He’s a little too delighted when she’s the victim of the curse doll, thinking that her misfortune is due to her nasty treatment of him. Sunbi is at first much too proud to beg for Gwangsoo’s help, so she’s forced to suffer before coming to her senses. The cure to her aliment, and the dokebis’ idea of revenge, were unique, to say the least.
This volume ended with cliff-hanger and I was tempted to rush over to netcomics.com to download the next chapter. However, I forced myself to use restraint, as I hate reading comics on the computer. It’s just a more gratifying experience holding the book and flipping through the pages.
I think the art has really improved in this volume. Sunbi looks a little softer, and I think her face is a lot more expressive. The illustrations seem sharper and more natural, as though the artist was becoming more comfortable with her characters.
Dokebi Bride continues to be one of my favorite series. It has a lot of depth, and the setting and situations that Sunbi finds herself in are unique and engrossing.
