The creepy shouta was actually a yoma, and he gives Misao the power to wield lime jello. When Misao traps people in the jello, the victims have their life force drained out. Misao plans to do this to thousands of people to gain the power to defeat Kazuma. The Kannagi family (deprived of the Fuuka Clan’s tracking skill) has to hire Kirika to track down Misao. Ayano is assigned to make sure that Kazuma does not interfere when the Oogami family goes to defeat Misao.
At the same time, Ayano is upset that Kazuma is going so far for Misao. Ayano suspects that Kazuma is in love with Misao, and Misao even hints that Kazuma only has eyes for the wayward Oogami girl. Naturally, Kazuma shows up as the fight is about to start, and Ayano hopes that she can hold Kazuma off for at least 3 minutes.
Although this was purely a setup episode, a lot of interesting tidbits came up. It’s finally revealed that the famed Fuujutsushi tracking ability is really just a thermal scanner. Also, we find that the yoma is using religion to control Misao. She has even gone so far as to respec as a Shadow Priest as seen when she meets Kazuma in the park and has dark energy steaming off her body. I find it interesting that the life force of all those young victims felt it important to keep groping Misao when she donned the jello armor, but when you need that much life energy, you have no choice but to absorb some perverts too.
I also liked all the angst that Ayano was feeling this episode. She’s totally jealous of Misao, and Kazuma has been pretty dismissive of the future Kannagi Soushu. It was awesome when Kazuma called Ayano on her threats, and told her that she would have to fight him with force, not words. It’s just another Kannagi getting a taste of her own medicine.
