Kamina and Simon go head-to-head with Viral once again (after he patiently waits for all of them to put some clothes on), and their improved skills allow them to hold their own. The appearance of the mobile Ganmen base, Daiganzan, changes the balance of power though, and the Gurren-Lagann is eventually subdued after putting up a fierce (and somewhat foolhardy) fight. All appears lost until reinforcements show up in the form of other human-piloted Ganmen. Kamina’s now-legendary feat apparently inspired Kittan, Dayakka, and several new faces to take the fight to the beastmen, and their combined might saves the Gurren-Lagann from certain dismemberment. Simon comes up with a plan to collapse the ground underneath the Daiganzan with some nifty drill placement, and the beastmen’s advance is stopped…for now.
Now that the Gurren-Lagann Brigade has expanded, it’s time for a battle of epic proportions next episode! I wanted to see more of the other unique ganmen, but alas I suppose this will have to wait for further episodes down the line. Looks like Yoko is becoming more and more overtly worried about Kamina’s recklessness. At this rate, it won’t be long till she’s confessing on the school rooftop.

The worst part of this episode, by far, was when the Gurren was getting its legs pulled apart and Kamina was yelling about it. It was very painful to watch orz.
