Reading comment spam can be fun

Molly is looking for comment spam in her post Best. Spam. Ever.. There are already some fine examples of weird spam there, so go check it out.

I’d post a comment with my favourites, but as I went through old comments looking for goodies the list grew pretty long, so I’m posting the best ones here.

First there are the crazy ones that don’t make any sense:

  • My wishes to all guests, I am in search of good wealth community.

  • Good!

  • Use the force, Luk! Apply for student loan information

  • LEATHER JACKETS

And then there are the sneaky ones that try to appeal to your ego:

  • great site

  • Hallo friends! Really nice place here. I found a lot of interesting stuff all around. Just what I was looking for. Great joy!

  • Sorry that i am a bit of topic here. I am looking for technical writer who is compute savvy. I like how you put your words together. If you are interested could you email me your rates.

  • Thanks so very much for taking your time to create this very useful and informative site. I have learned a lot from your site. Thanks!! I think you have done an excellent job with your site. I will return in the near future.

  • You surely have one of the most interesting sites in net. I believe in your way of doing, so go on this way. It surely the right way.

Good thing I’ve been able to stop all comment spam that isn’t manually entered. Those I’ll never be able to stop.

Damn. I still can't believe you saved these from one time or another. I know I've had great ones, but they are long gone and deleted forever.

Next ones to come up I'll definitely think twice before marking as spam.

Hmmm, what's wrong with "great site!"? I mean, it could be a genuine compliment.

  1. If you don't want comments, deactivate them.
  2. If people compliment you, may it be clumsy or not, just be appreciative.
  3. Don't be so arrogant : some people may not have the same command of the English language as you and it is therfore understandable that they may not always convey their message in the best way.
  4. By the way, your site is good, the content is interesting and I will come back (and i do mean it).

Ara: It could be, but not when posted totally out of context and the URL leads to an obvious spam site :-).

Greg: Compliments may defintely be genuine, and many are. The ones I've mentioned here, however, have all been posted completely out of context, followed by one or more links to spam sites (buy cheap "insert product name" online), or posted multiple times.

I sure hope I haven't picked anything that isn't real comment spam. If I have, I apologise.

Some of the ones I had received are not exactly suitable for the general public, yes I am talking comments and not e-mail.
