Hi, I’ve been storing up a little bit of game news to write a few brief words about, so here goes.

Bound Around

I heard about a game called Bound Around on a forum thread where people were recommending good Indie games and I thought that I’d check it out. At first glance I thought that it might be a platform game where you are a ball and you bounce around - and this prospect was exciting. However it’s, not. You *are* a ball and you *do* bounce around but really it’s a puzzle game.

You start in an outside scrolling world which has areas that you cannot access until you gain enough stars. You get the stars by entering doors and solving puzzles. The puzzles involve removing the coloured blocks from the screen by bouncing into them. Sounds easy except for the weird and wacky layouts, special items and monsters that you’ll encounter. I played the demo right through to the end with my boys and I’m considering doing a full review of it because it’s good fun and a tiny bit frustrating which makes it addictive. The graphics are a bit retro but they are fine for the sort of game it is.

Retro Tank 3D

I spotted a Work In Progess (WIP) 3D remake of the tank portion of Atari’s old Combat game. It’s called Retro Tank 3D and you can get it here. I was drawn to it because of the unusual style of 3D as you can see by the screenshot. A demo is available for Windows and Linux.

Domino Toppler

Another interesting looking game (well more game engine) is Domino Toppler. You can place dominoes, bridges, platforms and so on, and then watch it all topple in physics-based 3D. This has great potential for a game and kids will love it.
