Hump Day Funnies: Spiders on Drugs

I’m sure many of you have heard about the scientific health experiments on spiders who had been given a series of drugs. Some were given a touch of LSD, some caffeine, other marijuana, etc. They wanted to see the effects the drugs had on the spiders’ web-creating abilities. You can read more about the actual experiment here.

This video, however, is a bit of a mockumentary, and who doesn’t love those?

OMG….That is too funny.

I don’t really think the experiment would ever tell anything that could be useful for humans. Even though some humans do exhibit behavior that would be better suited for the animal kingdom.

hahaha, I completely agree. How on earth they think the workings of a spider on drugs is equivalent to our reactions…I will never know. I sort of feel that way about testing on mice, though, too. I mean, great, wonderful, the drug didn’t kill Mickey. Doesn’t mean it won’t knock me out cold.

Though I agree…there are some people we should put in the doghouse.

Well there are limits to testing on animals. They aren’t exactly like us, but our bodies and minds function on the same principles and chemicals. Doing crazy tests with cell phone radiation might be a stretch, but I think that when it comes to things like drugs and poisons, probably most animals(mammals at the least) will have the same reaction. There supposedly is a science to why the spiders react to the drugs: i found this image from the wikipedia link which explains the results from the test:

When I was younger, I don’t know why but i thought it was fun to kill spiders using random chemicals i found in the bathroom: hairspray, rubbing alcohol, … shaving cream! Now i can do it with substance. Take that, crack spider!

….ah i was such a devious child…
