Police, Road Atlanta, Super Clocks
09.17.06 - 12:27am
Once again I had the chance of heading out to Road Atlanta and drowning myself in high octane fumes and the sweet sounds of angry V8’s. Of all the things I love in life I believe high power sports cars take the cake easily beating out overclocking and paintball. This morning started very early, 7:30am, with the beeping of my cellphone which was promptly ignored until 8:30am. Once Paul and I got on the road it was 9am so we were flying in hopes of catching the end of the first racing session. En route to Road Atlanta we ran into a college football team with police escort. Police escorting a convoy of busses create the largest traffic jams as they drive at the speed limit (65 MPH) and take up one lane and everyone is afraid to pass the cops in the other available lane so you end up with a huge convoy.
Pulling into Road Atlanta an hour later was like walking into a supercar convention. You have your standard fodder of C5 and C6 corvettes and then you start running into exotics like the Porsche GT3, Ford GT, and Toyota Supra. Now to be honest seeing the GT3 wasn’t all that surprising as a GT2 frequents Road Atlanta all the time and the Ford GT wasn’t all that great as I see one every other time I go however seeing four Supras on the track at one time was something above amazing. I hitched a ride with one of the tweaked Supras and I fell in love with the car, again. There is nothing like hearing the turbocharger slowly spool up and then the car leap forward like a bat out of hell. Then you have that sweet TWERK when the blowoff valve releases the excess pressure and the pop from the waste gate. That 30 minute ride made my week and possibly my month and it also set a new goal for me. I’ve decided that before I graduate from Georgia Tech I will own one of two cars, a 1994 Toyota Supra or a 1996 Nissan Skyline GT-R. I’ve said it here and I have another 2.5 years to go about acquiring one of these cars. It will be interesting if I can pull this off, maybe I should make a donation button.
Besides my infatuation with the Supras the other cars were great with a lot of great drivers out there. As the day winded up some drivers started to quit early while other cars began to fail. Most notably one of the Carreras broke either a coolant line or cracked the radiator as it struggled into the pit area gushing a large amount of coolant. It was kind of sad watching the car bleed to death. Overall it was a great day with no cars totaled and only one car dragged off the track (Corvette).
In more technical news I have finished putting together my newest phase change cooler and I am finalizing the part selection for a new computer featuring a budget Conroe and the newest revision to the 965 chipset. I have been told with enough expertise (which I’d like to believe I have), cooling (which I definitely have), and a bit of luck it is possible to hit a 100% overclock so things should slowly begin to pick up around here when compared to the last two months. I guarantee the next 6 months will be very exciting with lots of hardware being broken in here along with a few aesthetic changes to the site itself. Now it is time to go flip a coin and decide between an E6300 and E6400.

Did you get a haircut?
I hate that I missed Road Atlanta, but I did go run around Siam Paragon mall and went to the car dealership floor to see the Murcielago and all the Porsches and Ferraris.
The Opera was great too, and one of the Princesses was there so there was this big ordeal with security and red carpet and what not. That’s my 3rd brush with royalty since I’ve been here.
