You need to take the elevator down, 20 floors down!

That wall? It’s to keep the rabbits out…………

(Australians will all know what that means)
    So jealous….have the bestest time!

I’m sure you guys are having the greatest time. When you are huffing and puffing your way up the wall, remember Rick Hanson did it in his wheelchair on his Man in Motion tour. And he didn’t want anyone helping to keep him from rolling back down the wall. Have a great holiday!

    Hey welcome to China!

I’m a Scot living in China and I’m just relearning to knit - if you’re looking for knitters, try market-places and parks.

I went to the market this morning holding some needles and yarn and was immediately accosted and it wasn’t long before they were showing me how to knit in-the-round without a circular needle - something I’ve never been able to figure out!

Have fun in China and go to Mutianyu Great Wall site if you can, it’s a bit further than Badaling but really worth it! :)

The wall was put up by Emperor Nasi Goring wasn’t it, Annette??? ;)

  • 9. Annette  |  November 23rd, 2007 at 5:58 am

Why yes Sewnsew…I do believe it was! Seems there were too many rabbits in China…..

I did indeed get to knit on the plane (thankfully!) and went to the Mutianyu Great Wall site–walked/climbed from tower 14 to tower 6 and then took the toboggan down!

We’ve been having a great time, have done a fair amount of sightseeing and shopping, and have taken plenty of pictures. I’ll be sharing more later…now off to the Silk Market!

did you buy yarn in china?

  • 12. david_demchuk  |  November 29th, 2007 at 4:11 pm

No Leo, but I did *see* yarn in China which is more than I was expecting. It was in an actual yarn store, which we basically fell over on our way from seeing the Forbidden City.

Unfortunately 95% of the yarns were China-made utilitarian solids in crochet/fingering weight, and the other 5% consisted of about three bags of utilitarian solids in worsted weight and a few shelves of barely spun hand-painted roving. (Like Colinette Point Five, only not as interesting.)

I sensed I’d have many other purchases to squeeze into my luggage (and I was right) so I decided to give the yarn a pass. It would have made a great conversation piece, but that’s about it.
