Now it can be told.

June 22nd, 2006

Now that Mama-E has blogged it herself, I can tell you that my surprise gift to her–in return for her gift of a giant skein of her very own C*EYE*BER FIBER hand-dyed sock yarn and twelve assorted balls of ‘Peaches & Creme’–was a giant skein of Handmaiden Seasilk in the extraordinary Sangria colourway, and a sensibly sized but still lovely skein of Koigu KPPPM. She thinks I’m lovely, I think she’s lovely, and now we can each make some lovely things.

Oh, and this Sunday is Toronto’s Gay Pride Day (well, not just ‘gay but… LGBTTIQ2S…LMNOP or whatever we’re calling it these days) and I’m sure I’ll have more to say about that when I have two seconds to rub together.  Asif’s volunteer group SOY (Supporting Our Youth) is one of the two honoured groups this year, which means we’ll be prominently placed in the parade…and out in the sun–if there’s sun–all day long.

The other honoured group in the parade is Prime Timers Toronto, which is a social group for Old Timers older gay men who…wait for it…are over 40!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!

I’ll make sure to bring my walker.

I’ve found it’s pretty good for the ego to go to events where I’m the youngest. Take care, though, some of those seniors are pretty quick!

When I swim on a Monday, the session I go to is followed by a schools party, so the changing room is swarming with little girls. while I’m getting dressed. Approx 10 years old at a guess. Anyway, I have overheard a few corkers while changing (children not generally being fitted with volume control), the most recent related to Nelly Furtado, who currently has a hit in the UK charts called Maneater.
First girl: I really like that Nelly Furtado song - you know (sings a bit)
Second girl: Yeah. I didn’t expect a song like that from her. She’s quite old isn’t she?

Nelly Furtado was born in 1978……

Clearly no hope for those of us over 40.
(I can go to a special session for over forties at the pool if I want to, except it is at the crack of dawn and apparently full of seventy-year-olds)

Have a great time at the march.

OK, so if over 40 is old, I’m way past middle age at least. That’s crazy. Hope you have a blast, though, walker or not!
