My birthday gift to myself arrived late last week. Yay me!
(Those of you who know how much this goes for on eBay and elsewhere will realize that I obviously love myself dearly and foolishly.)
My goal is to knit the Little Rivers ribbed pullover from this book, and then Inishmore from Fishermen’s Sweaters. To this end I’ve joined an Alice Starmore yahoogroup so that I can some helpful hints on yarn, yardage and techniques.
Check in with me in about 50 years.

Hmmm, I was going to make a crass remark about working the street to afford Starmore, but I wont. In your blog photo, is that a man Moebius you are wearing or a scarf? If the former, is there a pattern available?

Hey Kerry–that is indeed a moebius I am wearing in that photo, made from two skeins of Noro Kureyon. (Not for me, unfortunately. I made it for the director of my department at work in anticipation of her motorcycle trip to Patagonia.) It was the first moebius I ever knitted–the Purl Ridge Moebius from the Cat Bordhi book \”A Treasury of Magical Knitting\”.
While not strictly a \”man moebius\”, it does look good on me–I will have to make another for myself sometime!
PS: You must hold the streets of Toronto in unusually high regard if you think I could work them with enough success to earn the price of that book. I have to tell you, it has the original price ($17.95) pencilled in on the inside front page–one could weep to look at it.

Loved your Lewiscraft story in Knitty. I share a peculiar fondness for the quirky little stores.
Your blog is fabulous, definitely bookmarkable!
Good luck with Inishmore, I’m still gathering my courage to start Na Craga for DH.

Can you direct me to the Alice Starmore yahoo group. I would love to have the resource. I’m actually doing the short version on the cover…

The group is called Inishknit (though it’s not limited strictly to Inishmore–all Starmore patterns are discussed). You’ll find it at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/inishknit .

Congratulations on the birthday book. I too know the thrill of getting a book you’ve wanted forever, and I would definitely weep at gettting a Starmore book at less than $20. As it is, I’ll have to hope to get one as a wedding present to get one at all.
You’d think AS would realize that re-releasing her books would net her so much more money. It’s not like she’s making anything from the resales on ebay, and if people wanted to knit her patterns, they’d want to buy her yarn too, right?
Happy birthday, and I can’t wait to see what comes off your hands now

Thanks Lisa–I can only imagine that there are some sort of rights issues involved…or that AS is secretly one of the people selling copies of her books on eBay at those sky-high prices!
I don’t dare start any of the Starmore patterns until after I get the Rowan Slouch sweater out of the way (as well as various other warshcloths and things). I’ve started scoping out yarns though…and that’s always trouble with a capital T.
