Survivor controversy from nothing
Season 13 of CBS’ hit show Survivor is set to hit the waves in a few weeks and their plan for this year has some people (in the PC crowd) on the rampage.
For those of you who have NO clue what is involved with this show, the contestants are split into “tribes” and stranded in a remote local and made to survive on their surroundings while they compete in competitions and vote each other off week by week. Recently, the show has been slipping in the ratings a bit so they’re doing what any show would do in such a situation… they’re creating a controversy.
This season, there will be 4 tribes… 1 tribe of Whites, 1 tribe of Blacks, 1 tribe of Asians, and 1 tribe of Hispanics.
New York City Councilman John Liu has put his 2 cents in, “The idea of having a battle of the races is preposterous. How could anybody be so desperate for ratings?” and many in the country want the show pulled. I say, too bad… show it! Simply because these individuals have been split by ethnicity doesn’t mean that CBS is stereotyping anyone. They’re not going to make the Asians live off rice and noodles… and the Blacks survive off Chicken and Waffles. THAT would be stereotyping.
The problem I have with controversies like these is that people see a 30 second commercial that mentions a racial split for the show this season and people fill in the blanks with their own racist assumptions. What usually happens is that controversy builds and builds and builds, only to completely die once the show airs.
