Obama needs some training…
Yesterday, Senator Barack Obama held a Town Hall Meeting where he spoke on issues from DC Politics, to Global Warming.
In his speech about global warming, Obama goes on a bend about how Man is to blame partly because we refuse to stop driving around in our gas guzzling cars and SUV’s. He also insinuated that the world would be a better place if consumers would make the switch to Hybrids.
After his meeting Sen. Obama was seen leaving in a GMC Envoy.
Gee, if you’re going to lecture people on gas consumption and hybrid cars, don’t you think you should be seen driving an Insight or a Prius?
The most entertaining part of all was that his press secretary, Tommy Vietor, issued some spin on the issue in an attempt to “help out” Sen. Obama’s image. Vietor stated, “What Senator Obama has long advocated is the use of vehicles that are more fuel efficient, including but not exclusively hybrids. The vehicle senator obama travels in while in Illinois is a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV), which can run on e85, a blended fuel made of 85 percent ethanol. So he in fact was practicing what he preached at the town hall meeting in Metropolis yesterday when he said we must drive fewer gas-guzzling vehicles.”
One small detail… the GMC Envoy is NOT a FlexFuel Vehicle. He may OWN an E85 capable vehicle, but you think he would be seen in it, had he been slamming SUV’s.

Ha, classic!! Saddly to say I am from the same state as him, Illinois. If he does have an e85 vehicle that he drives here it wouldn’t matter seeing as we don’t have more thatn 2 stations that carry that type of gas.

First of all, Senators all have the same black SUV’s. They’re specially equipped with GPS transponders, are often bullet-proof, and fit an entire staff. In fact, every single seat in Obama’s SUV was probably full, and he wasn’t driving. Do you think Bush’s motorcade is made up of hybrids?
Don’t you people have anything better to do. Obama’s point stands — more people should drive hybrids, or not drive at all.

I wasn’t making a post about how Obama was full of crap about his support for Hybrid vehicles, I was simply posting it for the chuckles. It’s like Al Gore railing on about how we as human’s waste fuel and that “he conserves fuel on a daily basis” only to leave in a Gulfstream V.
It’s funny to hear politicians preach to the choir and turn around and do the opposite… NO MATTER WHAT PARTY THEY’RE WITH.
Hybrids are stupid. Toyota themselves said “economically, hybrids make no sense. The reduction in fuel consumption does not pay for the technological content and cost of the vehicle so therefore economically it remains fairly nonsensical, so that’s the left-brain analytical argument. The right brain is it’s the popular thing to do, many people believe that if we all drove hybrids the world would suddenly get cooler again and then it’s the patriotic thing to do because if you drive a hybrid you will no longer be funding the Arab terrorists, and so forth.”
The only people I know that drive hybrids feel that the whole world would be such a happy place if everyone had their car. Bullcrap. Hybrid’s STILL have emissions, and they still run on a non-renewable fuel source.
One idea that I LOVED was the Electric Car. It was just as powerful as combustion based models, and it had NO emissions to worry environmentalists. Why they killed it, is beyond me.
Find me something that will run on something we can replenish and I’d buy it…

Actually that’s just powered by a power plant, which is probably coal, and generates carbon emissions just like every other fossil fuel. BTW, your quote is from GM’s Bob Lutz, not Toyota. Toyota clear does think hybrids make economic sense, as they’re making a killing off them. As for GM’s position that hybrids don’t make economic sense? Well, take a look at their stock price.

Just to clarify: Obama’s GMC Yukon has an Active Fuel Management engine, which shuts down 4 of the 8 cylinders when not needed. This makes the vehicle use much less fuel than other SUV’s that run all 8 cylinders all the time. Also, the GMC Yukon that Obama drives runs on of E85 fuel. That means that 85% of the fuel used produces zero emissions.
Between half the cylinders remaining off most of the time and only 15% of the fuel used producing emissions, Obama’s SUV releases less emissions than the average Toyota Prius, which has a four cylinder hybrid engine that switches from gas to electric and all of the fuel used produces emissions.
Sort of like Algore flying to his global warming lectures in a private jet. However, it does appear that political correctness only applies to republicans, conservatives, and pro-lifers.
