A Sad commentary on Education, AGAIN.
It seems like every day I have to deal with morons… and it seems like every day, those morons increase in numbers. I run into people on a daily basis who have almost NO knowledge of the world around them… yet they can rattle on for hours about the latest fashion buzz, or who Paris Hilton is dating this hour. I get astonished looks on co-workers faces when I talk about the latest book I just finished… not because it was some 3,500 page epic novel, but because I actually have the patience to read… “It’s Sooooooo boring!”.
Yet we get polls like these from Zogby and act like we’re surprised…
75% of Americans polled could name at least 2 of the seven dwarves.
25% of those polled couldn’t name even 2 Justices on the US Supreme Court.
57% could name the main character in JK Rowlings novels.
50% knew the name of the Prime Minister of Great Britain.
More than 60% of those polled correctly pinned Homer as Bart’s dad from the Simpsons TV Show.
Less than 20% could correctly name either of the Greek poet Homer’s epic poems.
60% nailed the planet that fictional hero Superman was from.
37% knew the name of the closest planet from the Sun in our own solar system.
I know one thing for sure, the education my children receive in school WILL be suplemented at home. My children won’t be one of the majority on these polls if I can help it.
