2008 Sketchtoon Coffee Calendar: Top Spot on Google
Happened to search at Google on the term coffee calendar yesterday, and it turns out my little 2008 Sketchtoon Coffee Calendar owns the top spot of the natural search results.
Holy smokes!
Turns out that Ricardo Levins Morales' very cool 2008 Coffee Calendar is in second position on the first Google results page.
I'm not quite sure how this happened—I'm not complaining—but it's surprising.
Actually, it's not that surprising in one sense. in my research I've found very few coffee calendars available. There are a couple, but far fewer than I imagined ought to be out there, considering how many coffee fans there are in the world.
This is also a good reason for putting in regular effort, day in and day out, to build and maintain a quality blog. When it comes time to share or sell something (especially yourself) all that work can pay off.
Buy It Today: 2008 Sketchtoon Coffee Calendar: $19.99 + shipping.

Actually I have an idea why (http://www.userscape.com/blog/index.php/site/comments/coffe_calander/).
That post is optimized to push a lot of rank to you for that term. My blog post is actually on the second page of those results as well. Not sure if anyone else linked, but even without them for a lightly searched term one or two posts can push you that high.

Ian, yes, that's right. Your post and several others probably bumped it up in the rankings... should have thought of that. Pretty amazing nonetheless.
I think too the lack of coffee calendars on the web has to have some part in this, or else my post would have been buried behind Starbucks, Caribou, Peets and all sorts of other calendars.
I should check some other terms like kitten calendar and tea calendar to see what turns up on those searches.

Hello Mike, we have just purchased one for home and will put it next to my Pavoni expresso machine! Just hope the international shipment works :-)

Javier, thanks for picking one up! I have had good success with Cafe Press in the past regarding international shipping. It's not the cheapest thing, but it's somewhat expensive any way you go.
Let me know when it arrives and how you like it! :-)

Mike it's nice of you to link to and mention Ricardo's Calendar. He's my wife's brother-in-law and I had blogged about his project earlier. I think you are correct that your blog posts are why you now have the top spot - Google likes fresh blog content, and clearly you and Ricardo have the "most relevant" information items for that term. Your blog probably trumps his website in the eyes of the ranks.

Joe, thanks for the visit and comments here and on your own blog!
I think you're right about blogs and freshness... somehow the combo of inbound links from reputable sites, plus relevant text and lack of much competition puts Ricardo and I in an interesting position for natural search on Google.
Hpefully my link to Ricardo's calendar helps him out. He's sent me one of his calendars this week, and I'm going to send him one of my calendars this weekend — we figured it was only right to share. :-)
