NYT has a great photo essay depicting the events leading up to the assasination of Benazir Bhutto. I can't say I know much about her besides that she was the first woman elected to lead a Muslim state, which to me is beyond impressive.
The photo essay goes to show how truly powerful images can be and since I am not well-versed in World News I didn't know about this until I saw the photo essay and realized that if I had read about it, the impact wouldn't have been as great.

I haven't been following the situation in Pakistan in details but I was aware of the main story. So yesterday I was shocked when I saw she was murdered. I have no idea why but I feel real sad of what happened to Benazir Bhutto, if she was to be elected it would have been a good start for Pakistan for a better situation.
And I find it ultimately insulting of the current government to claim that she wasn't murdered but hit her head on the sunroof while it's obviously she was murdered.
And as for the photos they are excellent, although a sad situation John Moore was there at the right time and place to show the world.

That's an incredibly powerful and tragic photo essay...she was an amazing leader and politician. An incredible and passionate woman. Here's hoping this tragedy doesn't spark even more turmoil in an already torn country...

Great photo essay, lucky for him it will probably win him something or other.
She was not incorruptible though, at least according to some in her country and from her countrymen living here, and the sad thing is really that she knew her risk and took it - maybe not a smart thing to do really knowing how volatile the area was. After the first attempt on her life maybe someone with a little sense and caring for her people would have retreated until a better plan could have been made. I believe she had met with Secretary of State - Rice be fore returning. Maybe they made some bad decisions on this. maybe their just isn't a right time who knows.

It's good to see that even the best photographers (and the best cameras) aren't prone to lousy, unfocused photos. =) But this photo essay pretty much captured the chaos and the confusion immediately following the assassination.
It makes a somewhat far-off 'nothing to do with me' event so much more ... 'real', and I can't help but feel thankful for living in a politically stable country.
