when you're entire immediate family forgets that it's you're birthday? Heck, I know we're all busy right now (we're getting ready to move and the packers come on Tuesday for a solid week of packing and loading and delivery of our household goods), but wow. I don't even know what to do or say at this point, since it's 6:00 p.m. here, and my husband and kids have all forgotten that it's my birthday today.
Is it martyr-ish to feel a bit hurt? I don't think I should have to remind them about this one. And just for the record, I KNOW that there's no surprise party in the works either.
I bought an apple strudel pastry at the bakery this morning, so I think I'll put some candles on it and light them up after dinner, and see what the reaction is. Meh.
P.S. I hesitated to even post this, 'cause I don't want y'all to think I'm fishing for B-day wishes. I'm not; well, I am, from my family, but they don't hang out here. ;)

That's pretty ridiculous dreamweaver, I'd be upset if that happened to me, and especially since it's your close family. I don't have a lot of close family, and have quite possibly the worst memory of anyone you'll meet, but I always remember their birthdays and call at the very least.
My birthday is coming up in a bit too so we'll see if the same thing happens to me :)

Thanks for commiserating Mike, and for the gift! Funny you should mention calling, since my mom called from the States just as we were starting dinner to wish me Happy Birthday. My husband wanted to know why she called, since she almost never does (only on my birthday, actually), so I told him why, and now everybody here feels bad that they forgot.
So when is your birthday, Mike?

I think folks forgetting your birthday is rude. It doesn't matter how busy people are. That's not an excuse. If your home is in pieces right now, a cupcake even from the nearest grocery store and one candle should suffice. By the way, remember your mom called. Leave it to moms :)

Yup, moms rule, as a general rule. :) And to give proper credit, my dad wished me Happy Birthday too, from the background while I was on the phone with Mom. So dads rank right up there with moms.

Umm...well...I'm kinda used to it. My family never celebrates my birthday and my parents even forgot mine. To be honest, I grew up on that so much, some years I've even forgotten that it was my birthday so it's no biggie for me if people forget.
That is until recently because Mel's kinda determined to make up for all the years I never had a birthday celebration.

Wow, Kamigoroshi, I'm sorry to hear that. It shouldn't be that way, and good for Mel!
