I'm not a customer but I interact with people who are (for example 9rules members). I haven't talked to Tim in ages but from what I hear their service has suffered due to their growth spurt. This has been going on for quite a while. I sincerely hoped they would pull out of it.

If you'd like I can ask on the 9rules member forum if anyone is having a good experience and what server they are on.

I read what you said shortly after you wrote it and I agree...but I didn't want to say "I agree" but honestly, you summed it up really well. :)

I wish more people would do some serious research. I know many that trusted the loan officers but those people aren't neutral - it is in the loan officer's favor to get that mortgage. If a buyer can't understand the legalese and the implications of their decision(s) on their own (meaning they aren't trusting a stranger to guide them) the truth is: maybe they aren't ready to buy the house.

I don't think people are realizing how much this is going to impact us. This standard of "the government will fix it" only makes matters worse. And unfortunately there are going to be more companies and banks failing...watch 4th Qtr. 08 and 1st Qtr. 09. It's not going to be pretty when many more losses will be forced to come to light.

Mark Cuban made this post today and he points out that the strategies both presidential candidates have proposed are completely worthless due to the what happened this week. He points out that privatized Social Security is completely unrealistic considering that major corporations are not fiscally responsible.

Palin was here this morning. I didn't know she was coming...if I had I wouldn't have been where she was (security is always a trip when politicians come into town). Figures she'd pick one of my favorite places.

People did not respond warmly to her. People were polite but they weren't "Ooohh, Sarah Palin, I'm so glad to me you!". Not at all. Anyway, I got the chance to look the woman in the eye up close. She's like an ice queen, smiling but really not.

I didn't stay. I hadn't ordered yet...I came back home. Listening to the news after I left people were still low-key, she ate half of her sandwich and only responded to two questions:

1) How did she feel about the SNL impression of her? She once dressed as Fey for Halloween (the actress who portrayed Palin).

2) How did she feel about the government giving emergency assistance to AIG? She understood why the feds stepped in but she's disappointed as to what that could mean for taxpayers.

I learned something else: check, double check and triple check your insurance coverage.

I just got off the phone with the insurance company. About a year ago I had someone come out to look at the trees and he put, in writing, that my neighbor's tree was dying and should be cut down. I didn't think much of it at the time because that wasn't why I had the guy come out.

Their tree, due to the high winds, damaged my garage. It's obviously their tree because I don't have that type of tree on my property. Having the fact the tree is dying and should be cut down in writing makes the difference between me having to hassle over anything. The insurance company are more than happy to go after the home owner but I said I wanted to talk to them first. I'm friendly with the people who live in the house but they rent - I have no interaction with the landlord at all.

If your neighbor's tree falls into your yard it is still your responsibility (as I was told). Because I had in writing the tree should have been cut down, the home owner was negligent. If you have that situation it definitely can pay off to have someone come out and assess the property.

@fuscom - normally looters aren't much of a threat either but hundreds of our firemen, police officers and utility workers were in TX. We weren't expected to be hit as hard as we were. In TX people could board up their houses, or leave - there was warning. Here we were taken off-guard.

So we had to wait for those people to be called back from TX and they are just getting into town last night and today. People have locks on their doors and cars, put passwords on their sites because there are malicious people out there. It wasn't a matter of unfamiliar noises - it was watching a strange group of people rip the aluminum siding off of a vacant house (they lost it due to the mortgage issues) and the males in our neighborhood forcing those strangers out. That kind of thing and the burbs were hit with theft much worse.

We had to band together and do for ourselves because the people we normally rely on to protect us were in TX helping others. We have block parties here every year so we're kind of familiar with each other. I was friendly with my neighbors (more so in homes than apartments) every where I lived. With homes the bonding is different because we see each other more.

I'm glad you didn't have to go through anything like that.

EDIT: I remember something else I learned. Always have an old-time phone (that doesn't rely on electricity). I had to dig out one just so I could use the land line.

» Lessons learned from Ike's extended weekend visit  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by fuscom.

I just got my power back on yesterday. Obviously we weren't hit as bad as those in TX but loss of power and the ability to just "do" things as one normally does caused me to reflect as well.

I'm glad I still receive a newspaper daily and have a land line. I will never own an electric stove. I could light the gas stove with a match. Electric? I would have been screwed. My friends found that their lovely view on the 12th+ floor sucks when they have to climb all those stairs.

Companies need to educate their employees so they can educate customers. People become cranky, frustrated, evil, etc. when they are unable to receive answers.

Most people don't think about looters and gang activity when the power goes out. In my neighborhood we watch out for each other so I was fortunate. The males in the neighborhood watched out for us and the seniors on my block. They protected the neighborhood against the idiots that wanted to take advantage of the situation. I remained armed while the power was out and I was hesitant to leave my home unprotected. And no, as grateful as I was for the males protecting my home that many males around my daughter wasn't making me feel any better.

As I was talking to Scrivs last night I began to finally unwind. I wasn't sleepy but I couldn't focus on the words staring at me on the monitor anymore. I couldn't sleep so I did chores like wash/unplug my now empty freezer downstairs. Empty/clean the refrigerator. As a single parent I am expected to have the answers when, sometimes I have no idea what to do and just pray things work out right. As I type this I'm just starting to relax and let my guard down. Maybe I'll be able to sleep this afternoon.

And yes, I'm voting for Obama but I'm not blinded by him. As with every election I feel like neither choice is the optimal choice so I pick what I feel is the best one.

» The Sarah Palin Thread  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Ozone42.

@fuscom - If she wanted to protect her daughter she wouldn't have run for office. Anyone with an ounce of sense had to know her daughter would be ripped to shreds if only from past history. Chelsea and the Bush kids? Yeah, always under a microscope. Her thoughts on anything regarding children in general would be placed under a microscope.

If it were me my daughter would come first. My grandchild would come first. My daughter having a stress-free pregnancy would come first. My child with Downs would come first. VP wouldn't be the route I would take. Palin did and I won't hold it against her until her personal life begins to bleed into her responsibilities. No hand holding. No sympathy. If she can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.

» Universal Health Care in the US: A Good Idea?  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

I wasn't thinking of raising taxes. Instead paying a moderate tax with the foundation of reasonable spending in place (and I realize that is playing pretend at the moment). I do not agree with raising taxes because I feel it will just be thrown away. I can burn my own money more effectively. :) My initial reasoning was if responsible spending was in place the need to pay high taxes would not be there.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. From the quote below this could cost taxpayers an additional $25B. Realistically, it doesn't matter what McCain or Obama says about what they are going to do about taxes - they can't accurately speak on the matter until after Bush is out of office. When they made their plans this latest move (article) wasn't in the picture. In the short time Bush has left in office between the weather, banks closing up, etc. the government can take on billions that were completely unexpected. Honestly, the promises they make today might not (most likely cannot be) withheld.

The government is expected to take over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as soon as this weekend in a monumental move designed to protect the mortgage market from the failure of the two companies, which together hold or guarantee half of the nation's mortgage debt, a person briefed on the matter said Friday night.

Critics say the open-ended nature of the rescue package could expose taxpayers to billions of dollars of potential losses.

Supporters, however, argue the Bush administration had little choice but to support Fannie and Freddie, which together hold or guarantee $5 trillion in mortgages — almost half the nation's total.

A government takeover could cost taxpayers up to $25 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Regarding corporate taxes being business focused I cringe when I hear that but the plan is also to stop offshore incentives so companies stay in the US. That combination will lead to companies closing up period yet people are struggling (overall) and the funds cannot come from them either.

The problems are so deep-rooted I don't see them being resolved in our life times. Yet I see sites like AfriGadget and become inspired.

» Universal Health Care in the US: A Good Idea?  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

Bringing things back on topic - to me I don't mind paying moderate taxes. I do not mind helping others that are less fortunate than me. What I do have a problem with is that the monies collected from taxes aren't spent irresponsibly. And I wonder if that is the root problem that everyone has.

Realistically saying the amount we don't spend in taxes is enough to have hospitalization and pay for medical bills across the board....it's not realistic. Saying everyone should have a job is unrealistic because the jobs aren't there. I live in an area where people would love to work and can't - no jobs. So they relocate and what happens? The place they move to ends up getting messed up in time. The problem isn't being resolved - it's just a bandaid.

Would you guys have a problem with paying a moderate tax IF the money was spent responsibly? And yes, getting the government to spend responsibly might be like taking a trip to Oz...

The government(s) has to make money to maintain things - there is no getting around that. Military has to be paid. State/city workers have to be paid. Incentives for businesses to stay in areas must be given...there are tons of things these funds go to outside of hospitalization. Without taxes, where does it come from?

Google Won’t Let Search Startups Grow Too Large

And while it wouldn’t surprise me if Google did acquire Seznam to shore up its international influence, it points to a key issue that shouldn’t be overlooked: Google is so powerful and so rich that the chances of a small search engine growing to challenge its prowess are becoming smaller with each passing day.

He's smart...good advice he had.

» Could they get your business back? (Real Estate)  ...  Last Reply: 3 months ago by fuscom.

The costs would still end up being about the same, once all was taken into consideration, but the responsiveness was something that weighed very heavily on us: if the people of House 2 took this long to work on a deal, how long would they take to respond to any warantee issues on the home?

Congrats! I think you made the right decision for the right reasons. I would have made the same decision. If House 2 people had been more responsive (handled their business properly) this wouldn't be an issue. They didn't and although more expensive you have better service which you'll probably be thankful for in the end. Issues do come up with homes unfortunately. :(

On a side note while house hunting I noticed similar trends. One would think with the sluggish housing market responses would be better.

Obama's new ad: Embrace

Politics Community — Posted: Aug. 11, 2008

"Embrace" addresses the numerous ways in which the special interests in Washington have embraced John McCain and how McCain has hugged right back, employing lobbyists in top positions and giving tax breaks to oil and drug companies, instead of working to ease the burden on middle-class families.

That's one way to strike back at this ad McCain's video about Obama.

Seems like the people who bought it had a different understanding of what the app did....

She smiled at him and told him, 'Don't leave me … 'I'm waiting for you to come back.' He shrugged his shoulders, and she said that's when she knew he was tired. He signaled to her that his body was tired."
