Completely depends on the industry.
If I was working with a design firm and everybody wore suits to work, it'd freak me out.
If I was working with an investment bank and everybody had shorts and flip-flops on, it'd freak me out.

@fuscom, good point regarding McCain vs. Republican strategy. Republicans are extremely good at *winning* at all costs and I think that this move by McCain smacks of a desperate attempt to become more relevant. And also, bringing the presidential campaign into the bailout negotiations will definitely do more harm than good IMO.
I think I've now seen it all from the Republicans. They do whatever it takes to win, and this is just another low road they've chosen to drive down.
By now I'm sure you've heard that Senator McCain has suspended his campaign so that he can immediately get to D.C. and "help out" with the bailout proceedings.
He now feels that there's an extreme sense of urgency in D.C. surrounding the bailout, so much so that yesterday morning instead of returning a call to the Obama campaign regarding a joint discussion about the bailout, he met with Lady Lynn de Rothschild, a former Clinton backer that recently endorsed McCain.
He wants to expedite his trip back to Washington so much that yesterday he stayed in NY for a previously unscheduled interview with Katie Couric.
He's so incensed with the need to get back to D.C. that he's still attending the Clinton Global Initiative event in NY today before leaving.
And because it's so important to get to D.C. and work on the bailout plan, he's pulling out of the Friday night Presidential debate and his team has said that Palin's debate next week might be postponed as well.
So let me get this straight. Getting to D.C. to help with the bailout proceedings was so all-encompassing that he had to suspend his campaign, but at the same time he's meeting with wealthy supporters, giving unscheduled meetings, and attending events? Isn't the point of suspending his campaign so that he can get down to D.C. immediately and help out?
No, that's not the point. The point is that McCain is down in the polls, seen as weaker on the economy than Obama (by 10 points according to a recent Fox poll [PDF]) and needed to get back into the news cycle again in a way that shows him as a leader, so this is the stunt his campaign has cooked up. He hasn't done jack shit to help with the bailout thus far so what's with the sudden urgency, John?
My amazement isn't in her lying (all politicians lie) but rather in the media swallowing her talking points without really caring about whether they're true or not, caring more about what makes a good article or headline, or what attracts more viewers. She says that she opposes the Bridge To Nowhere so, hell, let's all talk about her opposition. Don't forget about her running her campaign as governor on the promises of the Bridge, or how after "she killed it" she still kept the money and just used it on other projects. Those points aren't interesting, so let's talk about things that get ratings.
My biggest problem is that we can't question her beliefs on abstinence and sex ed, because that is attacking her family.
Why can't I question her beliefs on abstinence as it has caused her to side with Bush and only advocate abstinence-only education? His personal/religious beliefs led him to think that abstinence-only education is the way to go when all research shows the opposite. Her doing the exact same thing because of her personal/religious beliefs is causing harm to the teenagers who need sex-related advice the most. That's a political flaw.
I'm a little confused as to how pointing out facts somehow makes me a left-winger talking point regurgitater? I don't even read Dailykos. I posted my opinions about her as a politician and then pointed out some hypocrisies regarding points in her speech.
@TJenkins, please elaborate on which "DNC approved talking points" I had in my original post that are false. McCain's involvement in the Keating Five scandal.... him marrying his current wife while still married.... what's false here?
The Obama campaign has done a much more thorough job debunking all of Palin's lies during the speech. Wow, there are a lot of them.
The speech last night solidified my opinions about Sarah Palin, and those are:
I've wanted to wash these opinions out as the vitriol that some speechwriting team put together, but Republican party strategists have insisted that the speech was hers, so I will attribute every word of her speech directly with her as a person and politician.
There were many points made in her speech that made me want to puke. Here is a sampling:
Her speech was sarcastic and baiting, not the type of speech she should give to first introduce herself to the American people. Lies, lies, lies, no real policies to point to, no real answers for the questions ahead, jabs thrown at her opponent but no meat to cling to on her own decisions.
Yeah I saw this when it was posted, and wow, that's horrible. The slow-motion version and still photos are just as horrific.
The final leg of the relay was unbelievable!! I can't believe he came back from being almost a length behind. The look on the French swimmers' faces was priceless. Who's smashed now!!
We thought that business cards were terribly important so before going to San Francisco on a business trip a couple years ago, we rushed and put together some cards with 4by6.com and they looked like shit. Wasn't really their fault, mainly mine since I had never designed business cards before and picked the wrong stock weight. I still have a huge box of them in my office, gathering dust.
I was born in 1998 so try not to hit the 80s. Thanks.
Interesting technique, I'll have to give this a shot.
This is really cute and made me laugh. They must live pretty close to Disneyland else they had to keep the secret while driving for many hours with a bewildered child in the backseat.
#3 is all about the proximity infatuation. Being in close contact with someone over a period of time can trump whatever "negatives" are seen off the bat. True lie.
I think if I were a kid and I saw this it would stick with me for the rest of my life and probably force me to become some sort of paleontologist. As an adult now I'm insanely jealous of those kids. Be warned, this is totally awesome. Look closely and you'll see what's going on.
This happened in the LA Museum of Natural History.

I don't usually get caught up in games too often, but right now it's Trism for the iPhone. Visit the website here. It's super-addicting and I can't seem to put it down. This is definitely a battery-drainer.
Saw it this weekend and I thought it was good, but not great, and certainly not as good as everyone made it out to be.
Many plot points play out at the same time as each other, but few are given the thorough examination needed to really care about what is going on and what the consequences are for those involved.
I agree with TJenkins, Maggie Gyllenhaal sucked in the role and was utterly forgettable. When events were taking place that involved her I couldn't care less. She was horrible.
Heath was fantastic as the Joker, especially his first real scene after the bank heist in the beginning (the first 5 minutes of the film have been available to watch for some time now so hopefully everybody already knows this!)
His solution is to use .NET’s ability to generate code on the fly. When you’re writing your program for manipulating images, you can’t necessarily write code like you could for someRidiculousFunction(), but you can have your program generate code that works that way, in which case you can avoid the tedious if statements and looping, and just generate mountains and mountains of procedural code.
Conservative Christian leader James Dobson has softened his stance against Republican presidential hopeful John McCain, saying he could reverse his position and endorse the Arizona senator despite serious misgivings.
"I never thought I would hear myself saying this," Dobson said in a radio broadcast to air Monday. "... While I am not endorsing Senator John McCain, the possibility is there that I might."
So many people have worked on the prime numbers that it seems unlikely that there could be a simple prime-generating function that has been overlooked until now.
Rutgers graduate student Eric Rowland has defied the odds, however, and has found a new one. In a paper just published in a journal I edit, the Journal of Integer Sequences, Rowland defines his formula and proves it generates only 1's and primes.
FaceStat uses Amazon’s S3 service to store and serve most images. Today they went down for 7 hours. During this time, FaceStat was completely broken — users couldn’t upload or view images, which is the point of the site.
I'm just saying that the apps in the Social Networking category don't appeal to me and don't solve any huge issue I'm currently having in my social life. They also don't want to make me tell my friends about them which is the entire goal of the developers... to get as many downloads as possible.
At the end of this article, I started getting into why most of the Social Networking apps I've downloaded have gotten the axe and it's simple: what they think I want is the opposite of what I want.
Most of the offerings in this category revolve around the idea that I want to be connected with all my friends at all times, knowing detailed information about their whereabouts, feelings, or current status. There are many problems with his:
Am I the only person who doesn't feel the need to be connected to everyone at all points of the day? Maybe that same feeling is what makes me post to Twitter so infrequently, the concept of not really caring or wanting to share.
The concept of the App Store is fantastic and will be a revolution in mobile content, delivery, and usage, but the issue that I had been worried about all along reared its ugly head the instant I started browsing.
Most of the App Store apps are shit. Useless. Poorly-designed. Shit.
The interesting thing about "the mobile web" is that devices that display web content on them, that fit in your pocket, aren't nearly as limited as "the mobile web" played them to be back when technologists were discussing this next, new wave. I was also hesitant to dive deep into mobile development in years past because I knew that technology would get better and the limitations I'd be designing for would either change or be eliminated in short order.
They're doing it to get attention, to get people to buy it, to sell more ads. The article has little to do with the current misconceptions of Barack Obama so the cover and the article just aren't in sync at all. I was expecting a thorough breakdown of all the things people think Obama is and then a history of why people think that, but instead I got a history of his civil service work in Chicago. Gotta be a ploy just to get people riled up.
Ozone, I'm glad you got yours updated. Lots of people are having issues.
If you haven't downloaded the Bloomberg app yet, I highly recommend it. It beats the hell out of the buggy NY Times app and the light-text-on-black-background theme is far easier to read.
Ouch, now ABC News is running with an iPhone activation horror story. I feel for everybody who can't fully use their new iPhone 3G or OS 2.0 yet and am extremely glad I did the manual update last night. OS 2.0 for the win!
Haven't used Loopt yet, seems to be a more useful app if you're in a major metropolitan area.
Just a quick note for my Jailbroken brethren. Last night I went into iTunes and downloaded the 1.1.4 update, then made sure to fully back everything up before restoring. I had a Jailbroken version of 1.1.1 and the process took about 30 minutes from start to finish. Make sure to get all your legitimate iPhone ducks in line before trying any fancy App Store stuff or who knows what will happen.
(Note: I have no idea if this process will work correctly with Unlocked iPhones running on different networks so if you're one of those people, I'm sure you're already aware of the issues.)
If you're on a Mac and haven't grabbed the latest version of iTunes yet, head over to Software Update and give it a download. The newest version of iTunes is 7.7 and it allows you to head over to the App Store and browse the available goodies that you'll be able to move over to your iPhone or iPod touch very soon. Some iTunes links (click once you've got 7.7 loaded up):
This is nowhere near an exhaustive list of the interesting apps I've seen, but it should get you started with some familiar-sounding downloads. One of the interesting things I've noticed is that it's highly beneficial for your iPhone app name to start with a letter very close to the start of the alphabet. With so many apps out there, people will be pouring through the categories (Photography, Business, Games to name a few) and the apps are listed alphabetically. iFunded startup Whrrl seems to already be at a loss since they're not on the first page of the Social Networking category.
This is the one of the funniest photos I've seen in awhile. I know John McCain is an invigorating young man but this is just unbelievable. I can literally feel the electricity surrounding this event.
McCain 2008. Feel the excitement.
The comments on the post are actually funnier than the picture.

I have no respect for Nancy Pelosi whatsoever after she completely disregarded Kucinich's 35 articles for impeachment against Bush. She dismissed and didn't even read them.
