» Internet Superstars and their Shocking Secret Lives  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by BubbleGum.

My treatment of bloggers in terms of comments is easy and rather simplistic. If the blogger is a B***H/B******D, I will never bother visiting their site a second time. Why suffer from eye pain looking at such crap and forcing yourself to comment on it.

Let's change perspective and you are the one who is visiting this site. If you merely make fun of someone because you feel like it, what kind of constructive use is that? It's like saying, "Haha, I am smart and you are dumb, and i am leaving a comment to tell you that, loser."

Someone should invent an item that can shoot such people through the Internet.

» Advice Needed: One blog or two?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by bbailey.

Seriously, I believe that most of us who wants to maintain a good blog (for substantial amount of viewers and comments) has to keep a blog busy by having articles out as much as you can. The very fact that you have two blogs right now means that your time is split between the two, reducing your update time.

As much as it sounds good to have separate ones with huge detail, it is important for new blogs or unpopular blogs to post more often so that people know that you are alive.

That is my take on it :)

» Anime download is now on the radar for prosecution  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by anime_miz.

Well, from 2005 to 2006, the anime market in USA has dropped 50% (i forgot where i got the official details) but they can no longer afford to acquire that much licenses. It's not exactly best times for anyone who wants to get it via legal means. You can only get the popular series.

Want to watch Kemonozune or Kaze no Shoujo Emily legally?

Sadly, it's a "dream on" situation.

» Anime download is now on the radar for prosecution  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by anime_miz.

Well, they are going to do it in USA, if you are wondering. :) The pressure of such a move came ironically from USA who said that illegal anime downloading has caused the markets there to plummet with file sharing.

Anime download is now on the radar for prosecution

Entertainment Community — Posted: Jul. 5, 2007  ...   Last By: anime_miz @ 1 year ago

Well, this happened quite a while ago but due to me losing my password on 9rules, I was unable to post it up here to see a bit of global discussion.

For those in the lost, in the last month, ODEX, Singapore's main anime licensing company sent out various cease or sent to court for some of the anime fans who are downloading fansubs. It seems that it will not be an one time scare thing, as more arrests will be coming soon. The relationships of anime fans, fansubbing and the anime licensing company is a strange and interesting relationship.

Here are a few links for you to understand a bit more.

» Ads in posts?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Josh.

I generally do not enjoy any ads right with the posts because it somewhat disturbs me quite a bit when I read it. I am perhaps of a minority that prefers to have the ads just at the sidebar, while the post should be essentially what it should be, the post. I do not want my post to be surrounded by ads, no matter whether they are related or not.

I want my opinion, which is why I read a blog, not for the ads.

» Are you being what you want to be when you grow up?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by DavidBB.

I always wanted to be an academia but being stuck in poor grades hell when I am young means that the dream seems so faraway. However, as I finally got into university, that small little dream came back to me, and the next thing I know, I have a fully paid academic research scholarship to study my Masters in media economics.

Life does like to play punk.

» What's Your Untouchable Topic?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Impz.

I generally do not write about anything that might be dangerous to tread on, such as religion and race. Anything like this should be kept away for me. ^^

» How long does it take you to write an entry?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Vidar.

Well, considering the genre that I am blogging on (Anime), I generally work on anime reviews and episodic summaries. The requirement of putting screenshots for beauty and breaking the monotony of words means that a bit more time is then used up.

It usually takes me 2-3 hours to finish up an entry after the proofreading, writing and the likes.

» iPhone: iPod's killer?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by thesirdanny.

I don't really think that with the amount of obligations that is required before you can use the iPhone effectively, it will be the iPod killer. To add on, I am wondering how they can bring the iPhone further away to other countries as well.

» How do you "manage" with your iPod?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by MangoFalls.

For me, I generally use the ipod leather sleeve provided by the pack within it. It generally helps to protect all forms of scratches. That said, I do not put much things in my pocket, other than my keys and my wallet. I prefer bags ^^

» 9Ruler's Sex  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by malitic.

I do not really think that people make that much of an effort to make themselves a male or a female until a point of time that you often get mistaken to be the opposite sex. To answer the original question, I highly doubt that people bother about the gender of the writer unless there is something more that the person is interested.

Trust me, I can be a "little annoyed" when people mistook that I am a female, and it can be down to my penchant of liking cute things and writing supposedly in a "female voice". I do not, I think?

» So What Is Everyone Watching Anime Wise?  ...  Last Reply: 9 months ago by anime.

Well, for jeremydavid, for the current spring season, and with your selection of series.

Heroic Age, Seirei no Moribito and Bokurano must be watched. Like now.

» So What Is Everyone Watching Anime Wise?  ...  Last Reply: 9 months ago by anime.

The spring season is insanely good for people who are following. There are tons of great series, and it is almost criminal not to have any good series to watch.

In terms of my own preference,

Seirei No Moribito - Great graphics, great fight scenes, a decent story

Bokurano - Downright disturbing moral issues, children fighting

Heroic Age - Epic Sci-fi story

Lovely Complex - Cute shoujo series with tons of laughter

Kaze no Shoujo Emily - Great traditional NHK work, character driven

Ookiku furikabutte - Baseball but it has a very interesting main character

Hitohira - A girl who is extremely shy goes into the drama club accidentally.

I could go on, but this season is just totally insane.

Online LDR: How do you feel about it?

Love & Sex Community — Posted: Apr. 21, 2007  ...   Last By: PunkNoodles @ 1 year ago

I am always curious about people in a LDR, especially if you have never met that person in real life before.

What do you do, and do you think that it can survive, as long as there's a plan to meet eventually? Or do you find it a total joke that it's impossible for two to fall in love without meeting each other technically in real life, even with the advanced technologies of webcam, skype, IM and other technological devices?

Just throwing it out ^_^

» Douche Bag Commenting  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by estarla.

I tend to think in the most warped way.

1. The ermm comment comes.

2. You start to think: "Gosh, they love me too much, with all the popularity I have"

3. You remember the logic that with more people, you are likely to get more idiots who simply want to troll

4. Happy, because you get popular

5. Have an ego-boost

6. Rinse and repeat

Honestly speaking though, just delete it if you are uncomfortable.

» What's your feeling about making fun of people on blogs?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Devin.

I personally just don't enjoy any blogs or websites whose main focus on comedy is to hit on stereotypes. That seems pretty low brow to me and I can hardly think that it will bring you anything cool, since there are many others who are doing this.

However, I think I am a bit way too uptight when it comes to humor revolving around stereotypes. :)

» I've become sick of blogging  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by LorriM.

I think it just needs a bit of rest, both you and the blog. It's probably you feeling guilt from not updating often and getting drained. Take a break and if you enjoy it, you will feel the itch to blog.

Wait til the itch becomes an avalanche before starting, it will refresh you. Go out, enjoy, have fun ^^

I have never read her blog but I have seen my share of cyberbullying, which comes quite a bit disturbing and often appears when a blog gets popular.

It's pretty juvenile action and I think to say that she over-reacted is probably a little crazy. Put yourself in her shoes and you probably be peeing in your pants. The worst thing is that you never do know.

By the time you do, it's too late.

» Emoticons  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by LorriM.

Well, I generally like to use tons of emoticons online during very informal IM messaging. I am even known in the irc channel and some main aim chats as someone who uses more emoticons in his words compared to the actual words.

However, I do draw a line between using it in IM, and my personal writing on the wired world. The usage of emoticons might be casual, but I do not allow it to infiltrate its usage in my blogging style. That will be rather unprofessional and tends to lower a bit of credibility in my opinion.

X_X (oops, see, even in serious writing, I can slip in some emoticons for the fun of it).

Anyway, I do use a variety of emoticons and yes, I faced nice people like bloglily who have no clue whatsoever the face that I am making, which is pretty hilarious since I will do more stuff to confuse the poor lady/lad.

» Blogger Voice vs. Grammar, Punctuation (i.e. editing)  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by dmm227.

Ok, since my blog is in fact a group anime blog, I think it will be nice for me to talk about this. My group blog is in fact a huge cast of authors, with 8 authors currently in the mix. To me, the writer's voice is very important and I do not judge whether the writer's writing is good or crass or bad. Under usual circumstances, I will never attempt to edit an article because it's an apparent disrespect to the blogger who had made an effort to write what he did.

I think personally that for a real professional blog (oh yes, the irony of such a term) generally requires an order of command, not unlike the commercial ventures of a newspaper, who has writers, editors and senior editors that makes the final say. In my blog, everyone is equal even though I do make the final say in most things (and I never exerted anything for the last seven months of this blog).

However, a writer's voice and a blatant misuse of grammar and punctuation are simply two completely different issues. The writer's voice is based on how you articulate your point and if you have really bad grammar and punctuation, whatever voice you have in your text is basically lost. No one will want to read a work that is juvenile and badly written in structure. How can there be any voice if no one is going to bother reading it. Who cares whether you have the brain of Einstein if you cannot structure your voice/argument to the extent of an effective high school student?

Also, as a proofread, I tend to guide the new author who comes into my blog (yes, i am still looking for an anime blogger at T.H.A.T Blogging Idol open auditions) in terms of structure and design style of the entry. I also make sure that the writer who came into my blog has a substantial knowledge of grammar and a decent level of the English language.

So, to summarize what I said, I will never edit any entry, I will always tell the person if I think it is problematic. The good thing is that I hardly need to do so since I have a good group of writers who write pretty well actually.

Hope that helps.

» Do you get bored with long animes?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Jia.

I guess the thing is that most series do not usually have a strong coherent plot all the way, and development tends to be a bit problematic for anything above 100. Just look at some of the series that went beyond 100 episodes, and they definitely have very down fillers.

» What is your post:comment ratio?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by a_romig.

There are currently 457 posts and 5,278 comments....Since My maths is bad, i approximate that to be 11.5 comments per post, there about?

The biggest comment post I had was around 220 over comments (and counting). Not too bad for an anime blog, and I am also glad that I have a few entries hovering around 170 to 180 comments too :P

» How did you break the blogging "Friend Barrier"?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Cas.

Hmmm, I think it's probably the same for me in which I hardly have any friends who have the same fervent interest as me in terms of anime. With that, i broke it almost immediately as well but now, I have a group of really nice commentors on my blog that discusses at length with me. :)

» Do you get bored with long animes?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Jia.

I am generally not a person who can withstand long series unless they are really good, like Saiunkoku Monogatari that kept me interested every single episode up to episode 39 (and happily waiting for the second season).

On the whole though, it's really a very negative bag of tricks. Naruto turned out pretty nasty after the later episodes that turned out to be filler, Bleach made me lose interest with the long arc. Don't get me started with inuyasha and one piece. Anime with long episodes generally tend to go downhill big time.
