RightOn,
Desiging for myself can be incredibly time-consuming. Not for the faint-hearted.
Helen, dvazquez,
Thanks very much for subscribing!
Good info from Alex.
It depends entirely on you and your blog content. How you come across to people plays a big part, and it's much better to be providing helpful information than to be asking for help from others.
If the content you provide is valuable, people will want to be associated with you, because they'll see you as an authority in your niche.
The Logo Design Love Awards are open for submission.
It's a logo awards for bloggers, and entry is completely free. The aim is to give exposure to lesser-known graphic designers, and to promote good logo design.
There's a superb line-up of judges, who have kindly donated their time, and if you don't have a blog logo of your own, feel free to nominate one you feel should win.
Judging panel:
Megan Patrick, Senior Editor at HOW magazine
Armin Vit of UnderConsideration LLC
Cat Morley of Creatlive Latitude, NO!SPEC and Business of Design Online
Adrian Hanft of Be A Design Group
David Pache of dache
Steve Delahoyde, Co-Editor of UnBeige
Alissa Walker, previously of UnBeige, and now Gelatobaby
Jeff Andrews of Design Inspiration and Sugar Frosted Goodness

I use WordPress' 'homepage excerpts' plugin, and show my latest post in full, with the next four as excerpts. So there are five in total, and not a great deal of scrolling involved before you reach that 'next page' button.
I've often thought about changing to a magazine-based style, whereby my blog is just a small part of the homepage, and located in its own directory, but I'm worried about the search ranking implications of a URI change.
fray, designvsart,
Thanks very much. Here's hoping I can keep you interested.
Thanks very much everyone.
I'll be making a few minor changes soon, with the hope of adding a more unique look.
Haha. Nice post.
For sure. Thanks for the suggestion.
I can present some kind of 'logo clinic' series, whereby I offer my own take, or ask others what they think would improve upon the design.
I've updated the original post, stating the intent.
Hey folks,
I've just launched my second blog, Logo Design Love, and would appreciate a critique or any suggestions.
There are currently just a handful of blog posts on offer, but I'll add more in the coming weeks.
Hope you're all well.
UPDATE:
The intent of the blog is to showcase logo designs that work, and to provide resources for those interested in logo design as a craft.
estarla,
I'm glad others have found use in my article, and appreciate your comment.
Tyme,
I've sent a message to Google via one of their support groups, but perhaps another avenue would be worth pursuing?
You make a good point about competing against my own name, and I've been planning a logo design-specific website for a while now. This is an ideal opportunity to get it up and running, using a new domain name and starting afresh. I've learnt a lot over the past year, and I can put that to use from the beginning of a project, rather than learning as I go along.
DavidAirey.com was my first ever blog, so it's about time I tried a new one.
Thanks for leaving your thoughts, which as far as I remember I always tend to agree with.
Thanks for the link - that's just the thing indeed.
I appreciate you being on my site, and here's hoping I do bring the hacker down.
I don't like to post links to my own content, but considering this has severly damaged my business, I want you to know about it.
Here's how a hacker gained access to my GMail account, and used it to steal my domain name.
WARNING: Google's Gmail security failure leaves my business sabotaged
If you can give me any advice on what to do next, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks shadowsun.
I've been able to move my blog to my .co.uk domain, and have published news of my domain name theft here:
Thanks Dustin.
I'm taking the matter to court, as GoDaddy (where the domain is currently hosted), can't do anything about the matter until they receive notice of an investigation. At that point, the domain will be locked until agreement is made.
Who knows how long that'll take, but hopefully the WIPO (who I've contacted about the dispute) are pretty sharpish about these things. My fingers are crossed.
Hey guys,
Thanks for asking about me.
I've been on vacation for a while, and in my absence it seems someone hacked my GoDaddy account, where davidairey.com was held, and changed the nameservers. At least that's what I think happened, but I'm no expert.
GoDaddy have yet to reply to the email I sent them a couple of days ago, which isn't helpful, but hopefully they will soon.
Dustin, if you sent an email to an account of mine with davidairey.com at the end, sadly, I didn't receive it. All emails to those addresses have failed since this happened.
Sorry about that, and thanks everyone for wondering about me.
You're right though.
I was just thinking about the content appearing elsewhere, but I shouldn't worry about those sites.
I'm out.
I get a lot of sites scraping my feed, so was thinking of others stealing my content, but is that bad to show my own blog? I don't want to come across as vain.
Maybe I should take it out.
Regardless, can you recommend any I should include instead?
I'd like to meet roro, because there's quite a lot of that donut left uneaten.
The UK equivalent to Las Vegas is Edinburgh. Yes, Edinburgh would be the best location for the event.
It helps that I live there. ;)
You know, I was also a bit miffed at missing out on Blog World, though not so much when hearing about a couple of main speakers not showing up. Still, would've been great to meet a lot of people I know from online.
I'm compiling a list of the top 50 graphic design blogs, and would appreciate you letting me know who I've left out.
I'm focusing on graphic design, as opposed to web design, although I realise there's an overlap in many cases (which is fine).
The list is categorised by Google PageRank, so the blog needs to be at least PR4 to make it on.
All blogs are written in English too, as my language skills are atrocious.
What do you reckon?
No secret, Ben, and 'need' is the wrong word (just something I used in my blog post for added effect).
I think that designers should be aware of these, at least, as they're very well designed, and suitable for a wide range of uses.
Barto,
Why do you like Garamond so much? ;)
Jeff,
Gonna check out your site now.
I made the 'Airey' theme, but it's for private use only. ;)
Nice list.
PRDesign,
No need to apologise! :)
I've been self-employed for a couple of years now, and have found that there are certain typefaces that act as 'pillars' in my collection. Ones you can always rely on.
It'd be great to know what you think, and whether you'd add or remove from this subjective list (in alphabetical order):
1/ Akzidenz Grotesk
2/ Avenir
3/ Bodoni
4/ Caslon
5/ Clarendon
6/ Franklin Gothic
7/ Frutiger
8/ Futura
9/ Garamond
10/ Gill Sans
11/ Gotham
12/ Helvetica
13/ Univers
If you're not sure what they look like, I've published a few images in a blog post, with a brief background on each.
It doesn't seem to be affecting the search engine rankings of those who have taken hits.
Don't worry about it.
Fray, Jeriel,
Thanks very much! Glad you like my card. I'm fairly happy with it myself.
I'm with RightOn. Following fashion is, for me, a complete waste of money. The industry causes more harm than good.
Scrivs, I agree it's good how the 2nd option represents the whole continent, and not just South Africa. This might be a poor design aspect for some, but if it attracts more publicity to all of Africa then it's only a good thing.
The most professional design forum I've come across.
I think it's great for US football that he's chosen to play there in his prime. Sometimes injuries happy at the wrong times, and there's nothing you can do about it. Look at Heskey for England - two excellent games last week after coming back from nowhere, and now he's broken his toe, ruling him out of the next two England games.
Sod's law.
Less than 200 people have entered, so far, meaning there's still a great chance of scooping one of the 30 or so prizes.

The South African public are voting on which poster to use as the official design. What do you think? Which one would you choose?
Personally, I think it's fantastic that the people are getting to choose. Perhaps if the London 2012 Olympic committee opened their logo design process up to the public we wouldn't be left with the eye sore I'm seeing everywhere.
I'd choose the 2nd option.
The third option strikes me as pompous, because everyone knows the birthplace of football is Northern Ireland. NOT South Africa. ;)
Thanks a lot everyone.
Good luck if you enter!
