I love TextMate because it's so lightweight! Coda, surely, must use more resources etc.

Plugg: European Web 2.0 conference

Web Community — Posted: Jan. 18, 2008  ...   Last By: Andrew @ 10 months ago

Nils has pointed me to Plugg, which is a conference about Web 2.0 especially for Europeans.

I get really annoyed over how US-centric everything seems and I hope this event will generate some buzz.

I can't attend and I've never attended any similar events. What are they like?

Time for Web 2.0 to die. And I want all of those annoying Presidential campaigns gone by the end of year!

A use for it is when you're trying to copy commands off a webpage... no switching between webpages!

Visor: quick Quake-like terminal

Apple Community — Posted: Jan. 5, 2008  ...   Last By: computerjoe @ 11 months ago

Visor is a nifty piece of software which lets you open a Quake-style terminal at the top of your screen in a keystroke, meaning you don't need to open a window just to quickly ask bc what 5+5=!

It's made by the same fellas as Quicksilver and it's attractive utilising Quartz etc.

MTP joys

Apple Community — Posted: Dec. 27, 2007

I have a Zen Vision M... any way to get video onto it in OS X? It uses MTP... horrible!

Any suggestions would be appreciated... a half-arsed solution in Parallels is growing annoying!

Blogging in a foreign language: Calling all non-native English speakers

Blogging Community — Posted: Dec. 15, 2007  ...   Last By: grasiani @ 9 months ago

9rules has members from around the world. I'm curious why so many bloggers elect to blog in English over their mother tongue... surely they'd be a bigger fish (but in a small pond) if they blogged in Dutch, German, Polish, Tagolog or Tongan!

The reason I post this is because I know bloggers who are German but write in English but Polish ones who blog in Polish.

Simply, why English?

(and what happened to non-English 9rules?)

MacUpdate and MacHeist

Apple Community — Posted: Dec. 8, 2007  ...   Last By: RightOn @ 12 months ago

It's that type of year... MacHeist and MacUpdate bundles. First time I've taken part in either of these bundles and I'm reasonably impressed. Only three days left for MacUpdate, so if you want to grab 8 pieces of shareware, if about 300 more bundles are bought then 9, for $50 (about 25 units of a real currency, namely pounds sterling) it's time to get your boots on!

Couple of problems activating the Xmind software offered by MacUpdate but hopefully this will be resolved.

Each electronic has a flaw....

Technology Community — Posted: Nov. 21, 2007  ...   Last By: computerjoe @ 1 year ago

Why does each electronic have a flaw? My Mac played hell installing XP, my new LG Viewty won't let me use a QWERTY keyboard in its browser, my other phone's battery has just died...

I want an electronic which works!

(finishes rant)

I've just got a MacBook Pro and have yet to have any hardware woes... I hope it stays that way!

I have had software issues with Bootcamp and Parallels!

My only complaint is the fussiness of the disk drive. It refuses to accept non-square CDs and is fussy with some media!!

Well BitTorrent is P2P as data is going from one peer to another, just there's a server in between but does data actually go through that server?

Demonoid's dead

Web Community — Posted: Nov. 10, 2007  ...   Last By: computerjoe @ 1 year ago

My favourite BitTorrent tracker Demonoid has been shut by the CRIA (Canadian RIAA).

First Supernova, then Torrentspy inside the US and now Demonoid have been shut.

P2P has legal uses, too...

Can anyone access Demonoid to confirm it hasn't just been shut for Canada + a few other countries?

» 1337 & lol vs. The English Language  ...  Last Reply: 9 months ago by dougvought.

Several of my friends have scarily started using 'lol', 'lmao' etc in their every day speech.

L337 and lolcat sucks, but many people can't spell and whilst it can get annoying lolcat is generally decipherable so if it helps them express...

Language is fluid, maybe this scarily is the way forward.

Boot Camp hates me

Apple Community — Posted: Nov. 1, 2007  ...   Last By: sjslovechild @ 11 months ago

Whenever I try to install XP via Boot Camp I am faced with errors like no bootable disk found, disk error etc.

Anyone else encounter any problems?

Getting a Mac... suggest software!

Apple Community — Posted: Oct. 17, 2007  ...   Last By: michele @ 1 year ago

So I've finally ordered a Macbook Pro and I've decided you Apple fanboys to suggest some software I should install...

Which browser? Safari, Firefox, Camino or something else?

Which office suite? MS Office, iWork, NeoOffice or something else?

As for graphics I don't know if I should get The GIMP or Photoshop... paying a fortune seems a bit silly!

Any software you suggest which I've missed out? Points for each good reply :)

Yes, it would be nice to say "I have a pagerank of..." but *shrug* I'd rather have 10 regular commenters than a sky-high pagerank.

Ditto but I sell ads too! :P

I have to agree with Josh. Their forums used to be helpful but no longer are.

I like the software but I can never be bothered to develop a theme due to the fussing on it takes with the loop etc.
