Instrumental always works best for me. I especially enjoy listening to video game sound tracks while designing/coding. But if I'm in a more upbeat mood, then it's ska all the way. :)

I usually use Safari on my Windows PC mainly because I like the text rendering it does. It find text easier to read in Safari than in IE or Firefox. Some people think it looks blurry, but I think it looks smooth and less jaggy.
Same with me. Within the past few weeks my spam comments have dropped significantly.
At first I thought I broke my comment script, but that wasn't it. Then I thought it was my new site theme which warned people that the comment form was protected by Akismet, but that wasn't it either.
Interesting that it's happening to multiple people.
My wife likes that Australain guy...
Mine too. He's alright.
But personally I think they all suck compared to that Archuleta dude.
Ah, thanks Tyme.
I guess I shouldn't read through several dozen Notes after a long day at work. :)
I can't believe I'm the first member to ask this, which leads me to believe that it was already asked, and I just missed it somewhere.
So awhile ago, 9rules members got an email with a new TOS or whatever. It stated that in order to stay a 9rules member you need to participate in Notes, Clips, etc. This made sense and all, but with those features moving over to Chawlk, does this above rule still apply?
I wouldn't think it would, and again, this might of been already discussed, but I would like to know (or be pointed to the place where this was already discussed).
Thanks!
If you're coding your own cms as a hobby, then you'll definitely need a lot of free time. I've been coding mine for the past 2-3 years now, either when I have free time at work, or at night when I get home.
But there are also periods where I won't touch my coding for months at a time. I don't know if it's because I lose my motivation or just don't know where to go from here.
I guess that can be another good rule while coding your own blog - make sure you stay motivated. :)
CodeWalkers is where I first started learning PHP. Of course this was several years ago and the site has changed a lot, but some of the tutorials are still there.
But, going off what Mike said, the best way to learn PHP is to get dirty and start trying to build your own stuff. I started by trying to build my own simply news system, and now have a fully functional CMS.
Well, my host has been absolute crap lately, so I'm looking for a new one. I've been eyeing eleven2, but kind of wanted to know if anyone here uses them or has heard of any good or bad things about them.
I'll have to agree with Oli on the fact that the admin side is really up to you, and what's most important to you.
On my CMS, the most important thing for me was the article creating/editing page. That's where I put most of my time, getting that page as easy to use as possible, since I use that page the most.
The second most important thing (for me) was managing my visitor's comments and spam.
The third most important thing is managing my additional site content, like site pages and blocks/widgets/sidebar items. So creating a system to easily add, edit, delete, and move pages/blocks was created.
In the end I look at it like this - If I ever have to go into my database to manually add/update/remove something, then my CMS needs improvement. But again, the admin side is really up to you and if you plan on making it public.
Also make sure your site is secure and idiot proof.
Are you using Analytics? Because I just noticed that the other day for me as well. PlayStation 3 was one of the browsers used to access my site.
Similarly, my smartphone is also now included in my browsers list as HTC-2125 (make and model # of my phone). Pretty sweet.
Yeah, I'm upset I missed the first episode as well. It looks like a riot.
I'm now sitting here at work, the next day, listening to my co-workers talk and laugh about it. It sounds hilarious!
My wife and I recently bought a house, and I just checked out the attic for the first time a few weeks ago. Besides some of the regular items up there (furnace, air handler), I found a box of old wigs.
It's kind of weird and gross and I don't really want to touch them. :P
My old site design was ripped multiple times. I really wasn't offended by it. I was actually kind of flattered. As long as they're not hot-linking my images, I don't really care.
I just switched over to Cirtex Hosting. So far they have been great. They have some really good values, and their support is top notch. Plus, they have a nice little community/forum for everyone to discuss things and help each other out.
It's really not worth the effort. I created a script that allowed my users to create their own rss feed from my site (check it out).
But in the end, the only two feeds that my users subscribe to are my recent articles feed, and my recent comments feed. All the other feeds are ignored. And (like the people above stated), it's probably just because the site isn't that big with lots of different content in different places. So the standard rss feeds are fine by themselves.
Here's a pic of me when I visited Sin City:
I'm currently switching to a new host called Cirtex Hosting. I did a trial run with them for about 30 days and liked everything about them (but then again, I'm coming from a really, really crappy host). Their support and quick response times were great, as well as their prices and hosting packages.
Again I've only been using them for about a month, but really like them.
For those of you who are getting weird Live.com searches, you might want to check this out: Yell if Microsoft's Live.com Spammed You Too
As for my top searches, they would be:
Funny thing is, even though I can't see the video (blocked from work), I know exactly what game you guys are talking about. I can picture the game in my head and see the game play videos.
How sad is that? That this horrendous game is basically only known for how crappy it is.
For the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) fans, I'm just curious what your favorite classes are and why.
For me, my favorite class would be the Soldier. Since TFC I've always liked the Soldier the best. Gibbing your enemies with the rocket launcher is a great feeling. :)
My other favorite class would be the Engineer. I only ever play as this class when my team is on the defensive. I just like how different this class is from any other class in the game. Building and maintaining turrets and dispensers is damn fun. Plus, it's a great feeling having your turret take out the same enemy over and over again.
As for maps, I love Dustbowl the best followed by Gravelpit and 2fort. My least favorite map would be Well. I didn't like it in TFC and I still don't like it in TF2.
I also play TF2 on the PC (SteamID: chapstick).
So what's your favorite TF2 classes and maps?
I was never a big fan of the Diablo series, and Hellgate: London doesn't look that great to me. I've read up on the game and watched several game play clips and whatnot, but I've yet to have this game spark any excitement in me.
There's also a demo of the game available here:
http://fileshack.com/file.x/11298/Hellgate:+London+Demo
I haven't tried the demo yet, but probably will sometime (when I have time ;) ).
I would go with the Orange Box mainly for Team Fortress 2. Yes, TF2 has some lag issues with the 360, but in my opinion this is the best multiplayer game out there right now.
Plus, Portal is really fun, and funny. And if you're into the Half-Life series, Half-Life 2 and Episode One/Two are great plays as well.
They're all damn fun. :)
I manually clear out my spam comments about once every other day. After about two days, I have around 20-30 spam comments.
I don't have my cms auto delete the spam comments after a few days because I still don't trust that all my spam comments are spam. I don't know why, but I always feel like I have to check them out first to make sure it's not a legitimate comment that Akismet marked as spam.
The same goes with e-mail spam.
Well, I just started getting into javascript. I've been teaching myself things little by little. But I started messing around with jQuery a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it! Obviously, compared to my bloated, amateur javascript coding, jQuery allowed me to completely streamline it all.
I haven't tried any other libraries out yet, because, like I said, I just got into javascript several months ago.
Cool! I've been using Gravatars for awhile on my site, and never really had a problem with them. Sometimes they would be slow to load, but since they upgraded to 2.0 or whatever, it's been better.
But having Automattic run the show now only means better things for Gravatar and its users.
Like the title says - Valve released a new video of their famed characters from the game Team Fortress 2. It's time to meet the Demoman.
Wow guys! Looking good. Besides having to get used to it, I really like it.
I'm viewing it in IE7 and I see no issues with it what so ever.
@ peroty:
Ditto. Except replace Apple forum with Steam forum.
Heliophage:
By your logic, any game that gets released on the PC and the console means the console is thriving while the PC is a dying. Please help me understand this.
If the PC was dying, then wouldn't they stop making games for it? Wouldn't sales of PC games go down? Neither of these are the case. In 2006 the NPD Group saw sales of PC games on the rise, and more PC games are in development than ever in the past.
As for Crysis, that link you posted was just a rumor. Immediately following that rumor the developers behind Crysis stated they had no intentions to bring the game to the 360. source 1 source 2
As for Halo 3, I finally got around to playing it at my buddy's house for an hour or so. The multiplayer is fun but I'm looking forward more to the single player and its story.
All of which, except Starcraft 2 and Quake Wars, are coming to the 360 as well.
You missed the point. These are all games that are originally developed and released for the PC. So saying PC gaming is dying when all these amazing titles are coming out for it is a little naive.
Plus, there's no mention of Crysis or Far Cry 2 coming out for the 360.
Heliophage wrote: PC games are a dying breed, you better keep up.
Yeah OK. Enjoy Halo 3 while I'm playing Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, Crysis, Fallout 3, Starcraft 2, Quake Wars, and Far Cry 2, to name a few.
All with amazing mod capabilities and level editors, not to mention more mods than you can imagine.
PC games a dying breed? Ha, you better keep up.
As for Halo 3, I'm looking forward to it but I probably won't get it for several more weeks.
I saw it last night. It's awesome. :P
But don't forget the Heavy Weapons Guy and the Soldier!

"Commonality" is my new favorite.
But for as long as I can remember, I've always liked the word "defenestrate". I like threatening people with that word. >:)
