RightOn, just letting you know I released a new version, 1.5, which should correct your issue.

» Podcasting files and WordPress...  ...  Last Reply: 8 months ago by cavemonkey50.

Really? So you can't add a MP3 without publishing a post? If so, that should not be happening. You should be able to add drafts without issue.

I'm going to be working on giving the plugin a major update before WordPress 2.5 is released, so I'll certainly look at addressing that bug.

RightOn, if you're looking for the full Podcasting experience, my plugin Podcasting supports external files and handles iTunes tagging as well.

» Alarms on the iPod touch  ...  Last Reply: 9 months ago by bioneural.

Just want to point out, alarms can be set through to go through the headphones or any external audio source you have connected. So, your iPod could be used to wake you up if you connected it to something before you went to sleep. It could also be useful for reminders and such if you were in an office environment or whatever, and had your touch connected to a speaker dock or something during the day.

Coming from a Palm device for PDA functions, I don't really find the missing useful speaker a huge loss. I never used the alarms to begin with because I was always at school or in some environment where it wouldn't be socially acceptable to have an alarm sound. So, it's no big deal for me.

What is a big deal is the PDA functionality is spot on and will get even better with the SDK later this month. Having one device that is both great as a PDA and great as an MP3 player has been perfect for me.

» Alarms on the iPod touch  ...  Last Reply: 9 months ago by bioneural.

To answer your questions, yes there is a speaker on the iPod touch. However, it's a low output, beep-only speaker. While you can set alarms, you're most likely not going to hear them unless your iPod is not muffled by anything and the room is completely quiet. I definitely would not count on it reminding you for anything important.

Regarding a lock, I just looked on mine, and yes it does have the same lock as the iPhone.

» What is your most viewed Flickr photo?  ...  Last Reply: 1 week ago by seeminglee.

Playing With Photobooth

1,126 views. I'm not really sure why this particular photo is so popular. It was taken with a bunch of other pictures from the Lehigh Valley Apple Store Grand Opening, but I think my other shots show the store better. The photoset did make TUAW, but this picture has like 1,000 more views than the others.

» Does Patrick Norton irritate you?  ...  Last Reply: 11 months ago by SonicGumbo.

No, Patrick Norton does not irritate me. In fact, I think he's one of the best hosts on the Revision3 Network. He's well informed and can explain things easily. I especially like the "teenage" side of him, smashing computers and being a rebel, because, well, I guess I fit that demographic.

Regarding Indigital, I did love that show, but I'm finding Tekzilla more enjoyable. While Hahn was an excellent host, I always felt Will Wheaton drug the show down. He was way too hyper and single minded for a gadget show. Not to mention Indigital could never get a regular schedule nailed down and often had horrible produced episodes (really bad sound). In comparison with Indigital, Tekzilla is produced a million times better.

» Which Wordpress Spam Management Plug-in Is Best?  ...  Last Reply: 12 months ago by peroty.

@Cavemonkey: Isn't it Tantan's Simple Spam Filter? Not Tam Tam?

Yeah, that's it.

» Which Wordpress Spam Management Plug-in Is Best?  ...  Last Reply: 12 months ago by peroty.

BadBehavior catches at least 50% of the incoming spam attempts. It blocks them from even making a comment, so Akismet doesn't have to filter those spam comments.

You obviously would get nowhere with just BadBehavior, but if you have a second line of defense, BadBehavior does an excellent job controlling the spam problem.

» Which Wordpress Spam Management Plug-in Is Best?  ...  Last Reply: 12 months ago by peroty.

I seem to have excellent luck with the following:

BadBehavior - Main defense
Akismet - Handles the spam directly
Tam Tam's Simple Spam Filter - Clears out the obvious spam from Akismet

» Has Media Temple gone down the tubes?  ...  Last Reply: 12 months ago by bitsonewmedia.

Have you guys been following the the system status updates? It sounds like the company they use to handle their storage components (BlueArc) screwed up. Media Temple is in a tough situation with them at the moment and it sounds like they're waiting on them.

If you're really bothered by this issue, I would submit a support ticket claiming how the downtime is affecting you. If you want, contact me, and I'll put you in contact with someone who can help you directly.

I wouldn't really consider this issue an issue worth leaving (mt) over. Knowing (mt), this will either be the end of the storage problems (the main issue over the past few months), or they'll drop BlueArc and find another company. (mt) has done this in the past with datacenters, and I'm sure they'll do it again with something completely affecting the overall stability of their services.

BTW, not that it matters for you, but not everyone is affected. My site is still running perfectly fine on Grid.Cluster.1.

» Glenn Scam  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Chris24.

I host more than 10 sites at Media Temple, and when this first broke, I was worried that any exploits on their services would affect me as well. I know that many, many people called in worrying about the same thing -- are their sites just as vulnerable? How had a hacker broken through their servers in under a day?

I agree completely with this. Knowing that Glenn ran the latest version of WordPress and was on a Media Temple server, I panicked. I spent a few hours that night trying to figure out how he was hacked, because I was just as 'vulnerable' as him.

I obviously didn't find anything out, tried contacting Glenn to figure out how he was hacked and he just ignored me. I didn't bother contacting Media Temple because I know they weren't the source of the problem; it had to be something Glenn was running.

Now finding out this was a scam just makes me angry. In the real world this is the equivalence of Glenn staging a robbery, calling the police, and going on the local news only to later reveal this was some ploy for a local radio station. There would be consequences in the real would, and there should be consequences online as well.

You just don't mess around with hacking online. While this may all be in good fun, in reality people are getting worked up over this. I hope Malcor quits while he's ahead. Anyone else who agrees to being hacked will look stupid and just show all they care about is the money.

» What do you do about dead links?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by isdereks.

Occasionally I'll have a search engine reader point out a link is dead in one of my past articles. If I can find a replacement link I will update it, however, most of the time I end up removing the dead link if it doesn't affect the article.

Other than that, I don't worry about dead links. Yeah, it's a pain, but there is nothing practical you can do to combat them.

Probably against the rules, but I'd tell the madman to give me five minutes while I pick one. Meanwhile, I would write a script to combine all my blog posts into one, and save that one. I'd loose the comments, but I could at least rebuilt in the future.

I wanted to go when I first heard of it, but then I found out the student passes were sold out. Now I realize Bryan is in charge, so I probably could have gone. Oh well, I probably should be in class today and tomorrow anyway.

If you liked Halo 2, definitely go for Halo 3. If you want the most bang for your buck, get The Orange Box.

Now for Bioshock, while it is an amazing game that I think everyone should play, I would consider that more a rental. The story is great, but once you played it through, that's it. Very limited replay value.

As far as the others, I'm picking up Call of Duty 4 soon. I'm hoping it's good.

» What blogger would you want to meet in person?  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by joshawesome.

Having the opportunity to actually meet a number of (former) 9rulers (Stammy, Kyle Neath, Eston Bond, Colin Devroe) and other famous internet people this summer at WordCamp, I have to say most everyone was exactly as I envisioned them. There were a few slight shockers, but if you put your heart into what you write and do, your personality shines through perfectly on the internet.

That being said, one blogger who I'd really like to meet is Shaun Inman. I've been developing Peppers for his Mint platform since day one, and the interaction I've had with him leads me to believe he's a knowledgeable person. While I don't know when or where, I have a feeling I will eventually cross paths with him sometime in the future.

Has Anyone Jailbroken Their iPhone/iPod Touch?

Just wondering if anyone has done this yet:

iPod Touch Jailbreak

iPod Touch Jailbreak

If you haven't, I would highly recommend it. As long as you follow *all* the directions, you should have no problem.

I'm loving all the new apps. I can't wait to see what other stuff the iPhone/iPod touch Dev Team comes up with.

» Waiting for WordPress 2.3.1  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by cooper.

I don't keep my nose in WordPress.org's Trac system - but since you do - maybe you could tell me if the WordPress upgrade routine will ever include those things you mentioned?

There has been the occasional talk about it, but nothing too serious yet. I tend to think something like this, while nice, will probably never make it into core.

» Waiting for WordPress 2.3.1  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by cooper.

Well, so far no major bugs have been identified in Trac, so there is no push for a speedy 2.3.1 release. I would say if the plugins you use are 2.3 compatible, there is no reason to hold back. Just make a good backup of your files and database, disable all plugins (very important for this upgrade), and upgrade away.

I haven't had any problems with the latest battery update, but I have read a few scattered reports across the internet. From what it sounds, the battery update is failing to update the battery's firmware. I'd try reinstalling the battery update and see if that helps at all.

» Google Hearts Jaiku, apparently.  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Devin.

I'm surprised Google purchased Jaiku over Twitter. Sure, Jaiku has more features than Twitter, but Twitter has a larger user base. A user base is more important than features, because Google could have improved Twitter's feature set down the road.

Perhaps Biz Stone, a large player in Twitter and former employee of Google's Blogger, had something to do with it. Maybe Twitter turned down Google's offer or Google didn't even bother trying to purchase Twitter.
