Where's The Result Talk?

Politics Community — Posted: Nov. 20, 2008  ...   Last By: jensized @ 6 days ago

Weird to notice that is no ongoing discussion here about the election result, for the record I voted Obama in my head since those pesky federal laws wouldn't let me actually vote! ;o)

Watching the right wing blogoshpere implode has been fun over the last week or so. I've read that the USA as we know it is done for as Obama and his Marxist henchman roam the land looking for people to give free money to straight from the pockets of hard working, non tax paying, non-plumber, country and western singers.

Some ex-dj, right wing hack, is making a lot of noise about the most blatant push poll in history and got spanked by Nate Silver which is fun to read if you have the time.

Read on 538.com

Palin 2012 sites are up hawking baseball caps and t-shirts as the left eggs them on praying that they make it so. I'm betting 80% popular vote in 2012 for Obama if that happens!

I'd just like to say, on behalf of my European brethren, a hearty Thank You to you guys for voting an intellectual, well spoken, good guy into office who actually does some critical thinking before rushing into things. A good man can be the President of the United States. Maybe he'll be nice and pardon that crook from Alaska (no, not Plain, Stevens, the older more wrinkly one!)

Stay Slippy!

ps: if any republicans/pretend non-republicans are thinking of moving to Europe you are more than welcome. we're pretty relaxed on the whole immigration thing here but be warned, we have high taxes and overachieving schools so you might not be too happy here! ;o)

our cat could debate Palin on foreign/domestic policy and win hands/paws down. the interview with CBS was priceless. The whole ticket is nothing more than histrionics and lies.

just accept it, lower taxes, better health care, more stable economy, people actually liking your country, maybe, no more war in Iraq, etc, etc.

It's almost like Republicans, the right, whichever banner you choose, enjoys being miserable.

Judging by his petulant performance at the debate McCain was lucky Obama nixed the idea of 400 town-halls (or however many he wanted).

The coming Palin debate train wreck is only going to make the tickets poll numbers tank even more, if she doesn't quit before then just to get out of it!

historically is meaningless if a couple of million voters became eligible in the last four years.

» The Sarah Palin Thread  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Ozone42.

polls, who said anything about polls! see, right wing, see no evil, hear no evil, not so sure about the speak though!

the difference is information. young people especially are able to bypass the evening news (apart from newspapers that was the main source of news 20 years ago) and get their information from a multitude of sources. Lies are exposed quickly, as in the never ending lies from the McCain/Palin campaign.

People are able to interact, express their views and however small the audience is for those views they are participating far more in the process than ever before.

On Facebook alone Obama has 1.7 million supporters (McCain has 300K). Maybe they won't all vote, or can't, but, it shows the effectiveness of new media forms in getting the word out.

Bush/Quayle were running against Dukakis, McCain is running against Obama, an intelligent, well educated, African American.

We are not living in the same world, not by a long stretch and the ill informed old timers that want McCain (how could you not be ill informed and vote for the guy?) have a fight on their hands against younger voters that have access to a massive amount of information.

1988 might as well be a lifetime away, which for many voters in this election it literally is!

Will it be enough? We'll find out soon enough!

» The Sarah Palin Thread  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Ozone42.

big difference, 20 years ago, no internet. Al Gore hadn't invented it yet! ;o)

» The Sarah Palin Thread  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Ozone42.

I'll wager it's a temporary bump and the more Ms Palin is exposed to real questions and real debate the more hollow she will appear.

» The Sarah Palin Thread  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Ozone42.

then Ms Palin ought not to put out press releases telling the media her daughter is pregnant. if it's a personal matter then why do that? They do that because she, Ms Palin, is going to be embarrassed that her political policies are not reflected in her own daughter and people will, rightly, say how dare you preach to us when your own family is just like everybody else.

the press and everybody else will also, rightly, bring up the point that her daughter chose to keep the baby, she does, in fact, have a choice which is firmly at odds with her mothers position regarding abortion.

Ms Palin brought this situation into the public eye, crying about the press asking questions of her just doesn't wash!

» The Sarah Palin Thread  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Ozone42.

It's amazing how she manages to get away with lying her ass off, or bending the truth beyond credibility, with little or no challenge. wait...... she doesn't do press conferences, that's how she does it!

oops, wrong place..... move on, nothing to see here!

» Universal Health Care in the US: A Good Idea?  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

i think the main problem is voters and activists backing off when the election is over. if you want them to keep their word, then keep on them. there are a lot more voters than there are politicians.

quote from Obama 08 Fiscal Policies:

End Tax Haven Abuse: Building on his bipartisan work in the Senate, Obama will give the Treasury Department the tools it needs to stop the abuse of tax shelters and offshore tax havens and help close the $350 billion tax gap between taxes owed and taxes paid.

Close Special Interest Corporate Loopholes: Obama will level the playing field for all businesses by eliminating special-interest loopholes and deductions, such as those for the oil and gas industry.

It's not just about blanket tax increases it's also about closing loopholes, which is also a big problem here in the UK that the Government has failed to address.

If that first policy in the quote is successful and just $100billion is re-directed toward healthcare then that goes a long way to fixing a lot of problems. Gnorb has also pointed out that allowing the government funded health care system in the US to negotiate drug prices would bring down costs massively for Medicare/Medicaid.

Making the system more efficient and cheaper will mean the the actual service doesn't suffer, the treatment is available to the poorest and most in need of care.

With regard to jobs being shipped overseas. Here in the UK there is a backlash against customer service jobs being shipped out. So much so that some banks are even boasting about the fact there customer service centers are in the UK in advertisements.

A company shipping jobs out may save money in the short term but there will be push back eventually and that might cost them a lot more money. It's not a simple black or white issue (no pun intended).

it's not theft (don't be so hysterical), it's called a society, if you want to live on your own, foraging for food and by your own laws then I think there are some folks in a Montana forest that will be happy to welcome you in.

» McCain's Strange Image  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

well first of all filming a school is a bit creepy and secondly how stupid do you have to be to mistake a school for a veterans hospital 3,000 miles in the other direction?

» McCain's Strange Image  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

sure, the RNC doesn't know the difference between a veterans hospital and a middle school in "liberal" Hollywood, come on, that's got to be funny! and grandpa McChuckle didn't bother to check his slides before the show. Turns out, it was actually video footage, so either some dufus from the campaign filmed that or they bought it as stock footage. either way the school knows nothing about it!

McCain's Strange Image

Politics Community — Posted: Sep. 5, 2008

Yes, I know it's on Daily Kos but get over it. Seems there is a little bit of back and forth about why John McCain gave his acceptance speech in front of an image of Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood. The school knows nothing about it and the McCain campaign is silent. If it was supposed to be Walter Reed Hospital then somebody is going to get fired and somebody is not going to be elected President. Time will tell,

it does not, once again, address the issue of how you pay for a $40,000 treatment when your insurance company weasels their way out of paying for it or what you do if you don't have or can't get insurance.

you seem remarkabley light on answers to those points. but of course, the big fat government pays for your healthcare, so why should you care. a tad hypocritical no?

» Universal Health Care in the US: A Good Idea?  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

i think the healthcare issue is one of emotion, humanity and practicality. it is damning that health care treatments exist but are unavailable to many because we can't agree who should pay for it.

get a job (x2 x3, etc) and get insurance is not a solution.

to see one has only to look!

of course the numbers are three years behind because BushCo™ doesn't believe in, you know, numbers and stuff!

so the opinions on Daily Kos are what...... artificial, made of hemp, a figment of Rush Limbaugh's imagination?

» Universal Health Care in the US: A Good Idea?  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

yes, convincing argument, with any luck Bob and his 60 million friends will show the right the door and say yes to Universal Health Care and you know what, that will save you money!! cool huh?

» Universal Health Care in the US: A Good Idea?  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

yes, but it's Bob's government too, so doesn't Bob get a say?

» Universal Health Care in the US: A Good Idea?  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by RightOn.

I have contributed to the NHS here in the UK (it's mandatory) for decades but I have never been sick. It's nice to know if I do get sick then it's there. There are problems, mostly down to poor management rather than lack of money, that mean wait times can be absurd and those issues need to be addressed.

However, paying National Insurance Contributions is the same as paying for Health Insurance with the main difference being the amount of money you pay. The NHS doesn't try and make a profit so costs are far lower than the insurance route. You can get private health insurance if you want/can afford it but other than wait times and private hospitals perhaps being slightly more like hotels, the difference is negligible.

A system of mass contribution makes the service cheaper and more accessible to everybody.

The "get a job" mantra is nonsensical since even if you do have a job there is no guarantee that you can afford or will get health insurance, especially if you have a pre-existing condition. Universal health care systems make no such arbitrary judgments.

Yes, there are people who suffer from self inflicted illness (smokers with cancer for example) but the very idea of me, or anybody else, saying "f*ck you it's your fault, go die in agony where I can't here you" is abhorrent.

For me, it comes down to what kind of society you want to live in. The "f*ck you" society or the nicer more human society where everybody contributes and everybody benefits.

It works for the postal service, no reason it shouldn't work for health care.

The very idea that this person (woman or not is irrelevant) could be the President of the United States if McCain buys the farm (though you righties would appreciate a farm joke) is enough to terrify anybody. Her speech was like a schoolyard argument, "my dad's bigger than your dad" crap.

name 5 projects that cost a billion dollars that had no meaningful purpose, or even 3!

» Portrayal Of Obama As Elitist Hailed As Step Forward For African Americans  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Gnorb.

Protect me from foreign attacks, protect my borders and protect our economy... other than that I'm pretty adept at taking care of me and my own.

deaths at the hands of terrorists including 9/11 over the last 7 years, 3,000. Gun deaths in the US over the same period, over 200,000. Sounds like you need protecting from yourselves more than scary terrorists. Your philosophy is bankrupt, much like your entire country will be if you don't change your attitude.

Protecting your economy means paying taxes. You want roads, schools, healthcare, infrastructure of any kind, then you have to pay for it and the big scary government has to provide it. That big scary government has to be run by smart people though which is the point so often missed by the right.

All that security you want but don't need, who's going to pay for that? Blackwater? oh.... wait, you already pay them billions for doing not very much at all other than protecting US personnel in Iraq which is a mess made by........... you know the rest.

» Portrayal Of Obama As Elitist Hailed As Step Forward For African Americans  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Gnorb.

that would be because Bush is the President of the United States, so yes, it is his fault. He's a lying, miserable, pathetic son of bitch with a cold heart a delusional mind and pathological inability to admit he's wrong.

Will Obama be any better? the chances are firmly in his favour that he will be, that means you right wing hacks will actually be better off, you might even be happier, you might actually stop being self centered miserable asses, we can only hope.

yes, yes, i know, i've insulted you, i called you names, the mighty ones will be displeased! bite me!

» Portrayal Of Obama As Elitist Hailed As Step Forward For African Americans  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Gnorb.

yes, thank you for the communications 101, i'll go with what Obama actually said!

» Portrayal Of Obama As Elitist Hailed As Step Forward For African Americans  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Gnorb.

once again, the only Biden quote on Palin that I can find is from ABC news

"i'm looking forward to meeting her"

The rest of your point is in your own head.

» Portrayal Of Obama As Elitist Hailed As Step Forward For African Americans  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Gnorb.

I'm not sure what "yukin" is so I'm pretty sure you just made that word up and that's not allowed.

I can find no comment attributed to Biden about Palin but Obama is quoted (by Politico) as saying;

"I haven't met her before. She seems like a compelling person ... with a terrific personal story.

"I'm sure that she will help make the case for Republicans, unfortunately the case is more of the same, and so ultimately John McCain is at the top of the ticket."

"He wants to take the country in the wrong direction, I'm assuming Gov. Palin agrees with him and his policies," he said.

"But the fact that she ... will soon be nominated ... is one more indicator of this country moving forward ... one more hit against that glass ceiling. I congratulate her and look forward to a vigorous debate."

so once again you're just making stuff up.

also, Ms Palin won the Mayorship of Wasilla with 909 votes, she didn't win by 909 votes that's how many people voted for her. Somehow I don't think that counts as executive experience because if it does then any high school president is good to go.

Palin has been chosen to try and nab the, so-called, PUMA's, who are still pissed that Hillary lost the primary. McCain doesn't know her, she's a woman and that's the drving factor which is insulting.

Having followed several national elections McCain and his merry band of muppets are running one of the most pathetic campaigns I've ever seen. They suck at telling the truth, they suck at lying and they have no policies. Other than the ones that you think are going to mean you pay less taxes of course and keep the evil hand of government from stopping you doing stupid things, like driving a 4mpg SUV in a national forest so you can hunt squirrels with an uzi.

One final thing, how long do you think she will be VP candidate when she gets booted from office for improper use of her power? I'm betting 48 hours, because that's how long it'll take McCain's addled brain to work out that's what he needs to do.

» Portrayal Of Obama As Elitist Hailed As Step Forward For African Americans  ...  Last Reply: 2 months ago by Gnorb.

yes, why speak or write eh? sounds more than a little ridiculous coming from a bunch of bloggers!

you've already had 8 years having your country run by a man as dumb as a sack of hammers so yes, damn right you need somebody with brains, communication skills, flexibility, nuance, judgement, etc, etc. President of the United States is not a job that anybody can or should even attempt to do. Just like not everybody should be or attempt to be an airline pilot.

at what point did self belief, conviction and confidence become negative character traits?

McCain and his unintentionally hilarious, never heard of her, met her once, believes the the earth was created in 6 days, Governor of Reindeerville™ VP are going to send you, and the rest of the world, even further down into a big black hole than we already are.

and RightWrong, take a good look around at the architecture in the United States, plenty of pillars and columns, all over the shop. In order to see them however you would have to open your eyes, just once.

it's a logo, with an eagle on it, how is that arrogance? I suppose what will worry the GOP the most is that he actually has character and a personality and some ideas and can, in fact, speak in complete sentences.

Whereas McCain can barely speak at all without cackling like a hyena but I digress!
