Monday afternoon or Tuesday are usually the best days to post your best articles. Then Thursdays can generate decent traffic for me. But it is really just a result of your target audience. Figure out who your audience and then determine what is the best time/day. Ex, if your article is about football Thursday, Friday and Saturday may have the best traffic before Sunday kickoff.
To make money these days, you need to promote yourself as a personal brand. Start by doing one consistently and doing it very well. Then talk about it on your blog, over and over again. Also, promoting yourself on other blogs with bring traffic and rss subscribers. You do this by commenting on other blogs and showing you know what you are talking about it.
Slowly you will get people with the same interests as you to your blog. Then you can serve ads that are shows based on those sames interests, plus provide consulting work or sell items of interest.

I was surprised when I read that the Twitter feed from Seth Godin is really not the best selling author. He mentions how he doesnt even use Twitter. It was interesting to hear that someone else was using his name, even though it wasn't for anything negative, but it easily could have been. Everyone else thought it was him, he has 1,417 followers and they are using a picture of him.
