The one that immediately stands out in my mind is the soundtrack for The Safety of Objects. Unfortunately, it was never produced and sold as a CD. Here's the IMDB song listing for those curious.

I'll throw a vote in for "The Departed". It's one of my all-time favorite films and I really like the Irish tune at the beginning. "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys.

All of them and not one said Dirty Dancing Soundtrack?

I'll add Vangelis' soundtrack for Blade Runner. The soundtrack for Naked Lunch was pretty hot too.

Saturday Night Fever! Hit after hit and the distillation of an era. I can't believe no one has mentioned it so far.

For somewhat more recent films--I agree with Requiem for a Dream, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Donnie Darko, plus Run Lola Run and Superbad.

@Ollie: Agreed, I was surprised to reach almost the bottom of this note and not see Schindler's List. I also liked the Gladiator soundtrack, along with all of the music from the Lord of the Rings films.

I think the only soundtrack I ever owned was Alladin. Kind of embarrassing. I used to know all the lyrics for "friend like me". But yeah most movie soundtracks these days suck, but if there were a soundtrack for the show Entourage or CSI:NY I'd definitely buy it.

I liked the 50 First Dates soundtrack and The Nightmare Before Christmas.... complete opposites, but hey, I liked them so much that I wouldn't skip a single track while listening to the whole CD

Kids has the best soundtrack...or Judgement Night. rock/rap waaaay before it was cool.

There are a few that top it. Those being.....Judgement Night, 50 First Dates, Braveheart, Boondock Saints, Last Of The Mohicans, The Breakfast Club, Queen Of The Damned, and Gone In 60 Seconds. Good stuff.

I'm going to have to bring up some of my recent favorites, although they may not be recent movies.

Across The Universe - I love The Beatles and I was a bit wary of the movie because of it, but not only was the movie pretty good, the songs were done really well also.

Rocky - Seriously...Eye of The Tiger. 'Nough said.

Hairspray - I loved the original with Ricky Lake, and I'm not a huge fan of John Travolta anymore, but this version was pretty cool.

Josh I have to agree with you on the Across the Universe soundtrack. I loved the movie and bought the soundtrack.
