There was a Filipino video clip I'm trying to find. Mocks Filipino's with heavy accents. My relatives used to get a kick out of watching it because it was exactly how they would pronounce words. P's are F's, etc.
It's actually pronounced 'phut phooc' with the ph meaning an f sound, obviously. Or 'f-uht f-ewk' with the ew like, 'ew, that's yucky'.
Phuc means happiness, but I think can also mean the belly. Phat normally has something to do with Buddhism, not really sure. Maybe it's a clever way of saying, 'if you eat here you'll have a big happy belly like the Buddha.'
Ok, that's a bit of a stretch. Any actual Vietnamese people out there that could help me out?
** I just checked out the image, and it is the fat Buddha guy! My tieng Viet is better than I thought!
God I love Pho. Tyme and Mike just don't understand my obsession with it, because you almost have to call it a soup with a lot of noodles and other stuff which doesn't make it sound that appetizing.
I make it a point to eat pho weekly. Sigh. So good. The best places are a drive from Metro LA but hellsyeah I do it!! If anyone lands in L.A. and feels like "soup and noodles" (it's always rice noodles but the secret's really in the broth) this is the place to go. :)
I'm fortunate enough to have one about 5 minutes from my place and I'm pretty sure there is another one in the other direction, but I have yet to check it out.
Oakland is a GREAT place for pho. You cannot move, really, without tripping over a steaming bowl of noodles and everything else that goes along with it.

Personally, I think pointing these out is a little childish. Reminds me of this though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4Kjq4sGO44

I'll see if my next posting in humor can be a bit more serious :D And after today's events I needed some humor before I went to bed.

How is it actually pronounced? Are the P's not really F's?
