Shadowrun

The best FPS on the XBOX 360, IMO. Too bad it is getting such low reviews. Reviewers focus on the price, the lack of a campaign, and that the game is a FPS and not an RPG. When you find the reviewer that looks past that, the game gets stellar marks.

BTW: It was designed by the guy that designed HALO.

I've wanted to try this game out so bad, but am very reluctant because of the reviews. What exactly makes it worthwhile to get and are any people online playing? Do you see it holding up after Halo3 is released in September?

There is a demo out right now. Download it. Try it. I've got mixed feelings about it. It's an awesome game! I just suck at FPS and combining magic with guns might be more than my brain can comprehend.

Give me Pac-Man. I can handle that. Wakka Wakka Wakka.

I don't get the freaking deal with PC but Vista only?! I'd probably have bought and be playing the game by now if not for that...

Yes, I realize that Microsoft is publishing it, but do they really think a non-big hype game like Shadowrun would make a lot more people adopt Vista? All it's doing in my view is hurting the game, not helping their OS.

I'll scope the demo later to see what's up.

Did anyone first think of the SNES RPG when they saw the thread title? Or am I the only old codger that did so? :)

No I'm right with you... I don't know what all these ex-boxes are about...

The learning curve was too steep for me. Over an hour of tutorials to learn the basics is more than I'm willing to put in - but I actually did, and I somewhat enjoyed it once I got to the fourth one. Played a few games and that was it. Just too much involved for me, and I hate seeing stupid trolls and dwarfs in shooters.

It'll probably be forgotten within a couple months, with the exception of the few that seem to be really into it. There are just too many other great games being released for one like this to survive. Especially once Half-Life 2 Episode 2 ships with Team Fortress 2. That will be some class based shooter goodness right there.

I've heard both extremes as reactions to this game, but haven't had the chance to check out the demo or anything due to a lack of time. I'm still trying to get my fill of Forza 2. From reading reactions, it seems like there is extensive 'prep time' required to even play this game, something that's a huge turn off for me. When it comes to an FPS, I'd like to come out guns blazing, not figure out how to pull the trigger.

Regardless, I'd still like to take the time to download the demo and see what all the fuss is about.

The demo is sweet, I really like the game on the Xbox 360. The reviewers have really gone collectively nuts on this one. Console games have always cost more than PC games, there have been numerous other online-only, full-price games before (Battlefield comes to mind), a SNES RPG is no reason to judge that the franchise may only exist as an RPG. People that deep into history should know that the original tabletop version also had a combat-only version produced (DMZ, Downtown Militarized Zone). Sheesh!

So it isn't the prettiest boy on block - personally, only the lack of a climbing animation really sticks in my eye. But it's good enough. The gameplay itself feels really ace. I hope to pick it up soon and suspect it may become a slow-burning cult hit.

Oh, and the learning curve is not steep. I had a much harder time coming to grips with Battlefield 2. Just play through the tutorials (what, one hour or so).
